CONCRETE LOVE Our Daily Bread July 28, 1998 "Though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing." 1 Corinthians 13:3 The story is told of a child psychologist who spent many hours constructing a new driveway at his home. Just after he smoothed the surface of the freshly poured concrete, his small children chased a ball across the driveway, leaving deep footprints. The man yelled after them with a torrent of angry words. His shocked wife said, "You're a psychologist who's supposed to love children." The fuming man shouted, "I love children in the abstract, not in the concrete!"
I chuckled at the alleged incident and groaned at the play on words, but the story rang true for me. While I agree in principle with the concept of self-giving love, I find myself failing to express it to the people I live and work with each day. First Corinthians 13 describes Christian love in terms of its tangible expression: "Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil" (vv.4-5). As a theory, love isn't worth much; as a practice, it is the world's greatest treasure. When footprints are in the driveway, people discover whether our love exists in the abstract or in the concrete. -- DCM "Follow with reverent steps the great example of Him whose holy work was doing good: so shall the wide earth seem out Father's temple, each loving life a psalm of gratitude. Love is an active verb!

Dear God: I ask that no Airman, Coast Guardsman, Marine, Sailor, Soldier, Reservist, National Guardsman, or Merchant Marine feel alone or forgotten.
O Israel, hope in the Lord; For with the Lord there is loving kindness, And with Him is abundant redemption. And He will redeem Israel From all his iniquities.

Howdy, Kathy.
Looks like your ducks are going to have to work for their supper this evening. LOL Not easy find corn in the snow, and it’s coming down pretty hard right now.

Good evening, ML...((HUGS))...a Blessed Lord’s Day and Shavua Tov to you and yours.
I hope spring weather has found you. It is pouring down snow here right now. My lawn is all white, the trees are all flocked, and I guess winter isn’t over yet. Looks like it may stay til midweek.

The Bloody Bucket in the Battle of the Bulge | History Traveler Episode 419

History Underground
https://www.youtube.com/@TheHistoryUnderground:
When people think about Bastogne in the Battle of the Bulge, their thoughts likely go to the 101st Airborne. But the perimeter that was formed around Bastogne as the Germans were pushing into Belgium came at a heavy cost. Holding off the German assault until the 101st Airborne & 10th Armored Divisions could arrive were the men of the 28th Infantry Division, which was also known as “The Bloody Bucket”.
Comments from below the video:
“My grandfather was in 9th armored division and saw action in this region. As a kid I just thought it was “cool” and that he was a “hero” I wish I could have looked at it from a slightly more adult perspective. The pain and anguish he had from the war was clear but not really understood. Amazing that he could still be so loving, gentle and kind after seeing war like this.”
“My grandpa was in that battle. He was shot 3x. He made it home. So many didn’t. That battle was pure hell.”

He Who blessed our forefathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - may He bless the fighters of the Israel Defense Force, who stand guard over our land and the cities of our G-d from the border of the Lebanon to the desert of Egypt, and from the Great Sea unto the approach of the Aravah, on the land, in the air, and on the sea.
May HASHEM cause the enemies who rise up against us to be struck down before them. May the Holy One, Blessed is He, preserve and rescue our fighting men from every trouble and distress and from every plague and illness, and may He send blessing and success in their every endeavor.
May He lead our enemies under their sway and may He grant them salvation and crown them with victory. And may there be fulfilled for them the verse: For it is Hashem, your G-d, Who goes with you to battle your enemies for you to save you.

G-d bless and keep your children safe, Alouette.

The lunch crowd was huge, and most spent the day all over the yard. Then a panic flight and the new comers were gone. The residents stayed in the creek.
Right now there are about 20 snow covered ducks on the bank.

The winds haven’t been too bad today other than when storms came through. I didn’t have anything severe here but a friend had one hit his place while we were on the phone this afternoon.
I did have a tornado-warned storm pass just a couple of miles north of the farm but didn’t get much wind. Just a deluge the flooded the place. Since then, it’s just been rain - sometimes heavy, sometimes light.
Not sure what all happened this morning while I slept. LOL I know there was one thunderstorm around 9:00 because it woke me up. There were 2 inches in the rain gauge when I got up. Probably that much again now.
You’ve been getting a pretty good snowfall up there. I checked the radar and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Just sitting on top of your area.
Wow! I take it back about the wind not being too bad. A huge gust just shook the window and when I stepped out to check, it’s roaring out there. This must be the actual front moving across now.

You’ve been getting big turnouts lately. Reckon the residents faked a panic so the newcomers would leave? LOL

Howdy, luvie.
Did the wind finally die down over there today?
It wasn’t too bad here until a few minutes ago. Now the wind’s roaring and the power’s blipped a couple of times.
