On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) stated that he would have preferred if Senate Minority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) had told Republicans “we need A., B., C., and D. for the Democratic Party and force the Republicans to meet him halfway on those issues and deliver something for the folks who are worried now” or else he’d vote for a government shutdown.
Host Bill Maher asked, “Republicans proposed a budget and Chuck Schumer said he would vote for it and then did and got ten Democratic senators to vote with him. The other side of the party is furious at this, AOC pretty much called him a traitor. Where do you stand on this? Did Schumer do the right thing or is the other part of the party right? Because that is the divide in the party.”

Don’t buy it for a minute. Shapiro is TOO SMART to not understand that Schumer had a losing hand in this case.
So why did he make his statement? ANSWER: To keep the party in one piece as the base is likely getting ready to split the party down the middle and bolt.

I think the true crazies on the left are so obsessed with their agenda that they will not admit why they lost and will not give it up. I believe they will destroy the party instead of working together.

Schumer surprised me. I really thought he would put up a better fight, show how really unhinged he could be, maybe even cry. But in the end I guess he saw the light and couldn’t take the heat for shutting down the government. So, is he a stand up guy for caving, or a coward for caving? Imho he’s a stand up guy for once in his life, but to most of the dems, he’s a coward.

Our side nearly destroyed itself in the past, in similar situations, but sanity prevailed and Trump understood the value of keeping ALL conservatives in the same tent.
Let’s see if the Democrats are that small.
Actually, they were hoping for that, DA. Schumer realized if they let government ‘shut down’, even for a day, those folks would not be coming back...

If the lunatic fringe bolts from the dem party, where would they go? And, if they bolt, they become a fringe party again, never actually winning an election and implementing their craziness.
1. Schumer knew a shutdown was a big loser politically.
2. The Dem party is split hard now, the garden-variety old-school liberals know the nutty wing is killing the party. They just don’t know what to do about them.
3. The nutty wing elected Trump and for that we should be forever grateful. They have become the gift that keeps on giving.
