The European Union (EU) retaliated swiftly with a two-step approach in response to President Trump’s fresh 25 percent tariffs on steel and aluminum that took effect Wednesday.
First, the European trading bloc — made up of 27 nations — will allow the suspension of the existing 2018 and 2020 countermeasures against the U.S. to expire on April 1. Second, the commission is proposing a new package of countermeasures on goods coming from the U.S. that will go into effect in mid-April, covering some $28 billion in imports in total.
President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said Europe “deeply” regrets Trump’s additional tariffs on steel and aluminum.
“Tariffs are taxes. They are bad for business, and even worse for consumers,” von der Leyen said Wednesday in a statement. “These tariffs are disrupting supply chains. They bring uncertainty for the economy. Jobs are at stake. Prices will go up. In Europe and in the United States.”

Europe sounds scared.😱
🇺🇸👍
Europe has always worked hard to exclude our products. This is nothing new.
Canadian clubbed: Ontario blowhard walks back electricity threat after Trump vows retaliation
Canada got a great finale when trump backtracked on the tariffs over the threat electricity tariffs in the United States. Europe wants the same thing.
Canada did not win & they will not win even more on April 2nd.
Is that another tariff date?
The EU leaders will soon learn you don’t get into a trade war with Trump.
What the enemedia never tells the People: Trump’s tariffs ARE the “retaliation.”

A corollary to what I’ve been saying: Trump doesn’t cause division, he reveals it.
Yeah he backtracked to his original 25% before Dougie tried to butch up with increased electricity tariffs and threatened to cut three states off completely. So who was it that backtracked?
Well the United States operatives did blow up an EU pipeline.
I agree trump did. We both agree.
Exactly right. Case in point: President Trump posted this on Truth Social: “Also, Canada must immediately drop their Anti-American Farmer Tariff of 250% to 390% on various U.S. dairy products, which has long been considered outrageous.”
If I understand correctly, tariffs are taxes so if they place tariffs on US products, it is going to increase taxes for citizens in the EU? They fail to mention that in the article.
We are doing stupid faster.
Not a good idea to push the EU into China/Russias orbit.
Trump’s tarriffs are reciprocal tarriffs.
The EU has few good options, and a history of bowing to the strong hand.
They need energy, and have been buying it from Russia this entire time. They don’t men, material, or will to fight. While the leaders are squealing, I am still seeing the energy deals and gas still flowing east.
Meanwhile, China is scoping up the rest of the world by their belt and road plans.
Tariffs are only bad when the USA uses them.
