Why should U.S. worry about Trump? Try egg prices, some Democrats say

NEW YORK — As their party struggles to navigate the early days of Donald Trump’s second presidency, some Democrats are convinced that their road to recovery lies in the price of eggs.

Instead of leaning into Trump’s teardown of the federal government or his alliance with billionaire lieutenant Elon Musk, they’re steering to what they perceive as the everyday concerns of Americans — none more important than grocery prices and eggs in particular.

U.S. egg prices hit a record average of $4.95 per dozen in January, surpassing a previous record set in January 2023, according to federal data. In some parts of the country, they’re much higher. A Safeway supermarket in San Francisco was selling a dozen eggs for $10.99 this week.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture expects egg prices to rise 41% this year over last year’s average of $3.17 per dozen. Already, some restaurants are adding temporary surcharges when customers order eggs. Denny’s said its surcharge varies by region and even by restaurant, while Waffle House added a 50-cent surcharge per egg at all its restaurants.

The Democratic establishment’s focus on blaming Trump for those price spikes represents a stark break from its activists, who have launched a protest movement arguing that Trump is a budding dictator with no regard for the Constitution.

Such concerns may be valid, some Democratic members of Congress say, but they don’t resonate with working-class Americans trying to feed their families.

“When that is your day-to-day worry, the philosophical conversations about a constitutional crisis or the democracy is simply not a luxury you can afford,” Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet (D-Mich.). “I’m not saying we shouldn’t worry about those things, because we should and they are important, but they are not primary in the minds of the people in Saginaw, Mich.”

U.S. egg industry sees record chicken deaths from bird flu outbreak

More than 20 million egg-laying chickens in the U.S. died last quarter because of bird flu, data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture shows, marking the worst toll inflicted on America’s egg supply since the outbreak began.

The record number of chicken deaths, which includes those birds culled when infection is discovered in a flock, come as figures show egg prices have soared to the highest they have been in years, driven in large part by the virus.

“Unlike in past years, in 2024, all major production systems experienced significant losses including conventional caged, cage-free, and certified organic types,” a USDA report said this month.

Taxpayers will pick up the tab for the lost birds. To incentivize farmers to quickly report and stomp out the virus, a USDA program pays producers for the eggs and poultry they cull.

Actually, the Biden administration ordered the chickens killed specifically to create this democrat talking point.

These people are retarded. Biden orders all the chickens killed, and then they blame Trump because eggs are expensive. It takes 18 weeks from hatching for a hen to lay eggs. So the dead chickens are being replaced as we speak, and egg prices will be down by the summer. Problem solved.

Do they understand why the price of eggs has gone up? I am guessing they don’t, because then they would realize there is no magic-wand fix for the problem. That might sound like an excuse, but the fact is that after millions of laying hens are slaughtered, it takes a while to replace them.

Trump isn't to blame for the Biden regime murdering hundreds of millions of chickens because one or two in a flock MAY have gotten the sniffles. (And your NWO/WEF friends burning down chicken farms just for fun didn't help either.)

News flash to leftists: Most of your breakfast / baking eggs come from chickens: You slaughter most of the chickens, eggs get more expensive.

Egg prices increased to $10 a dozen well before Trump was inaugurated.

It is due solely to state governments culling hens in response to bird flue hysteria.

Newsom of California even declared a state of emergency before there was even one human case.

I’m sure there are threads here on it.

The egg thing was Biden’s doing, not Trump’s. If the GOP can’t deflect this line of argument, they don’t deserve our votes.

They killed the chickens during the commies’ regime. Over reaction of

convenience to hurt America and dump it on Trump. I don’t think it was as

widespread as the commies say.

Thousands of chickens are wasted every day and it takes time to grow egg layers.

Do you know this? - When you buy chicks at Tractor Supply they demand the

address that the chicks will reside. At least in my commie area they do.

Fellow in front of me didn’t like the overreach and left the chicks at the counter.
