Constitutional Court Allows Georgescu to Run in Romania's Presidential Election

His candidacy must, however, also be approved by the Central Electoral Bureau

BUCHAREST, March 8. /TASS/. The Romanian Constitutional Court said it rejected motions to void the registration of Calin Georgescu as a candidate in the May 4 presidential election.

"At a March 8, 2025 session, the Constitutional Court considered four protests within the scope of its powers in connection with the observance of the procedure for the election of the Romanian president," the court said in a statement. "After deliberation, the Constitutional Court unanimously rejected the formulated protests as unfounded, as they do not meet the procedural conditions that are enshrined in law."

That means the court allowed Georgescu to run for president of Romania in the May 4 elections. His candidacy must, however, also be approved by the Central Electoral Bureau.

Two of the four rejected motions concerned Georgescu, and two others sought registration of another candidate.

Romania's former independent presidential candidate, Georgescu on Friday formally registered for the election after the outcome of the previous vote was cancelled. The Prosecutor General's Office opened a criminal case against him and brought six charges, the main one being inciting action against the constitutional order.

Georgescu won the previous vote, which was held on November 24, 2024. On December 6, the Constitutional Court voided the election outcome and ordered a new vote. This decision took place after the Romanian intelligence service declassified documents revealing, among other things, that Georgescu had illegally financed his campaign. The government took the ruling under advisement and set the elections for May 4.

We've been willing to go to war in ukraine to save democracy by propping up a guy who banned political parties, jailed his opponents, censored and banned churches, and canceled elections.

Meanwhile, in NATO ally Romania, elections already conducted are abrogated with the winner jaled and moving for war regime approved candidates are permitted to run because. Aaaand ... crickets.

And don't get me started on Brazil, etc. Sensing a pattern: US foreign policy has been to support fascism.

I asked my friend in Romania about this guy and here is his response:

“it’s a kind of mistic, yoga, peace maker apparently.
no, he wouldn’t be good , he want for us to exit from
all the organisations ( Nato, ue, etc) ?!?
and probably he is strongly supoprted from the east...

but things are becoming weirder and harder around here
Vili
Moscow requires US to push back Nato on the 1997 level”

He also said that the Romanian Supreme Court blocked him from running which is allowed per their Constitution.

We’re going to find that our “elected” leaders and “experts” have been the bad guys more often than not. How we deal with it will be the interesting thing to watch.

Has Trump weighed in on Romania? He probably knows if this guy is truly desirable.

From the little I know, seems he is a right-side populist, not an EU hack.
