Senior Trump Team Officials Hold Secret Discussions With Top Ukrainian Opponents to Zelensky, Probe Possibility of Holding Quick Elections: REPORT

Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky is, at this point, an unelected politician ruling via Martial Law, who appears not to have understood that the world has fundamentally changed with the arrival of President Donald J. Trump.

The US President is a disruptor and is ushering in a new era of peace between the nuclear powers. If Zelensky doesn’t wake up and join the effort, Trump has warned, ‘he won’t last much.’

Yesterday it arose that four senior members of Trump’s administration reportedly held secret discussions with some of Kiev’s top political opponents to Zelensky.

Politico reported:

“The senior Trump allies held talks with Ukrainian opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko, a remorselessly ambitious former prime minister, and senior members of the party of Petro Poroshenko, Zelensky’s immediate predecessor as president, according to three Ukrainian parliamentarians and a U.S. Republican foreign policy expert.

The discussions centered on whether Ukraine could hold quick presidential elections. These are being delayed in line with the country’s constitution because Ukraine remains under martial law. Critics of holding elections say they could be chaotic and play into Russia’s hands, with so many potential voters serving on the front lines or living abroad as refugees.” By now we understand that a POLITICO report will be hostile to ‘all things Trump’, including, of course, the peace process – so they have to smear former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko as being ‘remorselessly ambitious.’

But the lunatic bias from POLITICO pretends that Zelensky is polling well in the country when, in fact, he has less than half of General Valery Zaluzhny’s numbers.

The ‘most recent poll’ the report alludes to, which ‘shows Zelensky still comfortably ahead in the race for the presidency’, was released right after the Ukrainian comedian lit himself on fire in the Oval Office, and is clearly bogus.

“The official line from the U.S. administration is that Trump is not interfering in Ukraine’s domestic politics. This week, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick denied his boss was ‘weighing into Ukrainian politics’, adding all that Trump wants is a partner for peace.

[…] Both Tymoshenko and Poroshenko have publicly opposed holding elections before the fighting ends, as has Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko. Nonetheless, ‘Poroshenko’s people and Yulia, they’re all talking to Trump World, positioning themselves as people who would be easier to work with. And people who would consent to many of the things that Zelensky is not agreeing to’, a top Republican foreign policy expert told POLITICO, asking that his name be withheld so he could speak freely.”

Trump top officials have frequently suggested Zelensky should step aside unless he comes fully on board with the U.S. plan to end the war rapidly.

And – despite the USAID-media wailing – that’s the right way of tackling the situation.

Dictator Zelensky's a weed planted by the Deep State. His function is to get America involved in a war with Russia.

Good for President Trump for holding off on signing the mineral deal. I think that behind the scenes he and his advisors don't trust Zelensky and understand that the deal is only a piece of paper and not an agreement to end any war.

There's a split between Ukrainians. Some are pro-Ukraine, some pro-Russia. A fair and free election will let them decide the future of their country.

At the rate Ukraine is depopulating between immigrants fleeing the country and the rest being fed into the frontlines, if they don’t hold elections soon, there won’t be any voters left let alone a country to vote for.

Excellent!

They're discussing how deep the cesspool they throw Zelensky in will be.

Hmmm, the “ US officials” must be expecting that in the next election, eastern Ukraine will be part of Russia because they won’t vote for Poroshenko or Tymoshenko, and neither of those candidates supporters have a history of accepting “ pro Russian” opposition parties. The big political question is….who will the Ukrainian hardline white supremacist nationalists accept as a replacement for Zelensky and who will the Ukrainian military and security forces support?

Zaluzhny now in London has been mentioned as a possible future leader

So just in case I’ve missed something....

Eleven years ago, Russia invaded Ukraine after Nuland interfered in Ukraine by recommending an interim leader. Problem for Moscow is, that intervention wasn’t a violation of Ukraine’s constitution, or the Budapest Memorandum, because Ukraine actively sought America’s opinion.

There was a power vacuum caused by the president fleeing the country to avoid impeachment on grave charges of high treason related to his unilateral sellout to Moscow in December 2013. That action provoked civil war, led to the Prime Minister resigning, and the entire government collapsed.

But the USA still abused its position and in doing so provoked the Russian invasion.

Am I missing anything there?

So... Any further abuse of position by the USA would provoke Russia again, right? And Trump wants peace, right?

So the last thing Trump’s administration should be doing right now is blatantly trying to instigate regime change, right?

This reported back channel attempt to get Ukraine to depose Zelensky ans open the door for a Russian puppet leader to take over, is completely uninvited by Ukraine. Even Zelensky’s political opponents have said publicly that the postponement of elections is entirely lawful and constitutional, so they’re rejecting American and Russian talking points based on wilful misrepresentations.

So this is a far more egregious abuse of American power, and a far more gross violati9n of Ukrainian independence and sovereignty, than the Nuland intervention.

Never mind the shameless hypocrisy from the Trump administration, in condemning the Nuland intervention while actively doing something even worse.

The bigger issue is that this torpedoes the “you don’t need security guarantees” argument below the water line. We’ve been here before. The USA involvement on Ukraine’s leadership gave Russia the excuse for the 2014 invasion, so it follows the 2025 overt attempt to initiate regime change will be exploited by Russia.

The only reason Russia might stand back would be if they believe the USA is actively ensuring that Zelensky’s replacement will be Moscow’s man.

And if that’s their take on it, the USA’s historical allies will see it that way too.

Correct. Just as they voted to support the postponement of the last election date because of the war and their constitution.

At least they’ll have another quarter million people to help with the war, ejected from the US soon.

I do wish people would make their minds up, what do they ACTUALLY want Europe to do. Because optics do matter.

We’ve had months, years even, of President Trump telling Europe to step up, pay its fair share, and look after its own defense. We on FR all agree with that.

In the space of three weeks, Europe has finally come together to do exactly what Trump and MAGA have been calling for... And it’s gone down like a bucket of cold sick in Washington. Europe is utterly baffled by the sudden reversal of America’s position.

Across Europe, people expected Russia to predictably spit its Binky out at the unfairness of Europe stepping up, and play the “this could trigger World War 3” card. But nobody in Europe expected Trump to do it too.

So, does America want to get out of European defense, get out of Ukraine, get Europe to pay for its own security with its own defense contractors, so the USA can leave NATO, save trillions of dollars, and focus on homeland security?

Or, does America want 50% of Ukrainian mineral returns, and want Europe buying American stuff?

Because America can’t have it both ways.

And we now know from the Kremlin statements today, Russia still refuses to budge an inch on peacekeeping. They won’t accept ANY American, European, British, or NATO aligned peacekeepers.

Does Trump want a just peace, which can only happen if there are security guarantees for Ukraine as well as Russia?

Or does Trump really think letting Russia bomb Kyiv into capitulation without Moscow making any concessions at all, is going to lead to a lasting peace?
