Feb. 4-17 is National Marriage Week. It may sound prosaic, but it couldn't be more important.
As marriage goes, so goes the nation.
Without marriage, we become a nation of increasingly isolated, self-absorbed individuals, which is why the decline of marriage is so ominous.
In 1970, married couples were 71% of U.S. households. By 2022, they were 47%. In 1962, 90% of 30-year-olds were married. By 2019, that figure had fallen to 51%.

If not MGTOW, the Passport Bros got it right.
I know the writer—fighting the good fight in hostile Boston for many decades.
” In 1962, 90% of 30-year-olds were married “
And for the previous 4 millennia.
It’s a self correcting mechanism.
The people who don’t marry and reproduce at or above the “replacement rate” simply disappear after a couple of generations.
It is supposedly surprising that millennials appear to be more religious then boomers and gen X/Z. Not surprising at all. They are the children of the people who didn’t fall off the train. So they and theirs continue on while the wayward self absorbed narcissists...get old and die alone.

Good point.

“When Did Politics Become More Important Than Marriage?”
Women get what they want.
It’s now quite clear (from observations of “hypergamy” behavior by young women) that harems were the choice of women.
Most young women will gladly share a “high value man” with dozens of other women. Maybe hundreds, who knows. While they are doing so, they’ll see numerous more average single men, who are effectively invisible to them.
...I don’t know what happened, but I have not seen an attractive woman in years. I used to see them all the time but NOT anymore, they worship ugly!
Don Feder is indeed a conservative giant. Have loved his work for decades.
Most of the gorgeous women are in eastern Europe.
If there were an opportunity for men to take leadership, this situation would be it. Women generally take a huge risk in commitment because statistically and historically their very lives are at risk. Offering them stability and security works the best, and just being that man who demonstrates those qualities is going to get you noticed. Being the perpetual youngster in sporting gear and devoted to play is unattractive. Men could lead the way back to adulthood for everyone if they so desired.
Fix the family court system and marriage might increase.
You haven’t been paying attention to the current dating scene, have you?
Marriage was bastardized by law to where the government forces its way into every marriage as a third party.
Refusing to marry isn't just about family, it's also about avoiding an unwelcome partner who's determined to rob you and deprive you of your rights.
Bingo
Women’s very lives are at risk if they get married? Please elaborate.
Despite feminist groups calling the current situation a ‘Patriarchy’ it is really ‘Matriarchy’ since the laws are skewed towards women to the detriment of men.
- Statistically married women cheat more than men.
- About 85% of divorces are initiated by the women.
- Women typically get the house or force the house to get sold in order to get 1/2 of the sale proceeds.
- Many states are community states and the ex-wife gets 1/2 of all the ex-husband’s money.
- Women typically get the children and file for child support
- Many women get alimony.
A young man today would be ill advised to get married at all.
About the only way forward is to hire a lawyer and have a solid pre-nuptial agreement in place before the wedding.
If the decline in marriage is to be stopped, then the laws in this country need to be amended to encourage marriage, and to not penalize the men for getting married (and then suffering a divorce)
