“Still ... the arrogant entitled attitude is not something an interpreter could have helped.”

If you have ever worked with folks from those cultures arrogance and ego is a standard. Just as it is with Italians. An interpreter would have been able to humble this down and make it less offensive. They not only rephrase to make it very clear as to understanding, but they sometimes also have to reinterpret and smooth out cultural differences so that one culture does not offend the other.

See #37... I have personally been through this many times with language barriers and those cultures...

“And on top of that, I think what we’re also dealing with a language barrier. Zelinsky is trying to speak english through a ukranian oriented language processor. So the point he was trying to make was poorly delivered, and he stepped in it as a result.”

That was the impression I got too. Explained in #37.

You can throw oceans of US aid at a problem and get nowhere. Zelensky got somewhere. in that Ukraine has survived. So far.

"Consider this: ... and Putin attacks Ukraine again,"

That's a hypothetical that shouldn't be discussed in front of the press.

What if Red China attacks Taiwan? You want Trump to discuss that in detail in front of the press?

Remember, once American petroleum is again top dog in the market, Russia will have very little cash to spend on war-making.

The only culture I’ve worked with where ego is astounding and off-putting is (dot) Indians. I’ve never noticed that about Italians. I love working with Italians and love their no-BS bombastic attitude. Maybe it’s considered ego to some, but I appreciate it.

There was one thing that could not be misinterpreted though. When Trump physically reached over and hit Z in the arm... lol

I think you miss a valid point here ...

Security guarantee = troops on the ground in Ukraine, not just weapons and $$. I watched this exchange and the interview after with Brett on Fox. Z isn’t looking for peace, he is looking for troops.

We know Putin’s line in the sand on that topic. Z was fishing for the United States to cross it. Notice during the exchange at no point would President Trump or VP Vance address any guarantee.

We know President Trump won’t send our troops there in any meaningful way to a meat grinder. He said as much.

The standard with men from both cultures is self boosting their own egos in almost everything they do.

An good example would be Youtube videos where they create “Do it yourself” projects. The sense they always have to throw out is “See what I was able to make with my superior mind?”. It is just a male ego thing in a lot of cultures that becomes a standard base of attitude. Some cultures more than others.

We do it too but differently. We bully and shame others down rather than boosting our own with some idea that this is different than tooting our own horn. Rather than tooting our own we try to detune everyone else’s horn. It is no different...

No, I’m not missing the point. NOBODY except Putin wants their boots in Ukraine. NOBODY.

But peace in Ukraine cannot be guaranteed if Putin is the sole arbiter of whose boots are in Ukraine.

It is unseemly for the USA to expect Ukraine to ignore its own entirely plausible existential fears for the sake of a deal that is OBVIOUSLY going to be utterly unworkable without security guarantees of some sort.

The right way to handle that is to acknowledge it’s a real thorny problem, and bring in other international partners to come up with a collective solution that even Xi and Putin can agree to.

It’s already obvious that British, American and European peacekeeping troops are out of the question according to Putin. Taiwanese, Japanese and South Korean troops are needed where they are. So, who else could do it?

If you ask Putin whose troops he’d accept instead of his own, as peacekeepers, he’d probably start with Iran, Syria, Chechnya, north Korea. Surely our line in the sand can’t allow that.

I don’t think it’s at all inappropriate for Zelensky to air this problem in front of the world press. Trump, Biden, Macron (until recently), and Merkel, have all used the “don’t poke the bear” argument to just wave this problem away and change the subject - leaving Putin laughing and Ukraine burning. Ukraine is pig sick of being burned.

Use Palestinians as peacekeepers. Hamas needs a place to go so we can renovate Gaza.

Good point. He can speak English reasonably well for basic conversation but clearly, he doesn’t “think” in English so he should have used an expert interpreter for each word in a public high profile meeting with POTUS.

If you’re in a foreign country and can speak the language, you’d definitely want an interpreter if you had to make statements in a foreign court.

And much of the money went to Ukraine elites for pensions, healthhcare teeth whitening and other luxury items while his people are murdered on the front lines. Just a huge money laundering machine. The war ends, the money stops and Z doesn’t want that.

Zelensky sounds like he still has a money flow / leak from somewhere in the US government. If Trump does not have a beancounter with green eyeshades and rolled up sleeves looking at EVERY disbursement to ensure compliance with the rules and a clear explanation of who the money is going to and why, and appropriate authority to spend, then the whole DOGE thing is publicity.

Almost all the Ukrainian economy is in a state of war. There is little to tax and its subject to disruption through infrastructure attacks.

So they still need to care for old people, provide medical services, feed millions, etc. Its not just the war effort, its a whole economy that needs to be sustained. The Euros have picked up most of this.

And right after Trump was inaugurated Zelensky demanded billions from the US. He is used to getting exactly what he wants from our country under Biden.
