President Donald Trump on Thursday appointed Alice Marie Johnson, a woman he pardoned during his first term, as "pardon czar."
The announcement came during a Black History Month event at the White House.
The "pardon czar" will be responsible for making recommendations about who should be granted clemency.
Johnson was convicted of nonviolent drug trafficking in Memphis, Tennessee, and after serving 21 years, her life sentence was commuted by Trump.
Reality television star Kim Kardashian West met with Trump at the White House a week prior to her release to discuss the great-grandmother's case.
While Johnson claims she never "touched, saw or sold a single drug," she admitted to assisting in communications.
"Back in the 1990s, I was a single mother about to lose my house," Johnson wrote in a Fox News Digital opinion article. "In a desperate moment, I made a life-altering bad decision to become a low-level player in a drug operation. When law enforcement authorities broke up the drug operation, I was prosecuted and sentenced to life in prison."
While in prison, she worked in the prison hospice, volunteered in the prison church, became an ordained minister, and started writing and directing plays.
After being pardoned, she remained under federal supervision for five years.

How come only black people can get pardoned?
I’m not so sure this is a great idea.
Because black Americans were the majority of J6ers!
I thought about 1,500 honkeys got pardoned a month ago.
When will there be an Honor American Veterans month?
Why are blacks stuck with the shortest month?
No...it was 600 Honkeys and 900 Crackers.
Why are blacks stuck with the shortest month?
I think we all know who ‘The Man’ is.....

Alice Johnson is charming, a real asset to halt false imprisonments.
It’s clear Ms. Johnson has developed a strong friendship with Trump outside of office, and not only with him but with Pam Bondi as well, who she mentions in the interview. She’s not some soft on crime cookie, but justice is justice and often the punishment does NOT fit the crime — and there HAVE been wrongly convicted people from all races sentenced to prison or even death. That’s just our fallen world at work.
What I see is a woman of God with a purpose and I appreciate that Trump is drawn to people of faith.
Yes! Her faith in the LORD shines through!
I KNOW you NEVER have been regularly around drug dealers.
I cant tell.
I hung with a bad crowd for too many years, and then I drove a cab and saw more.
Those NON VIOLENT drug offenders almost ALL HAVE weapson.
NT GIVE A FLYING #### who charming she is or if she found God.
There’s religious place to worship in prison.
It sounds like she served enough years...so that’s good that she got released
but she’s no ####ing hero.
She was a person who took part in the drug trade.
and even with marijuana there is ALWAYS the propensity for violence...or those guys i knew that carried guns to sell pot must have just liked how they felt in their waist.
Too many non streetwise people feel too sorry too easily for criminals
The perfect response ^^^
Bernice King, the daughter of late civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., says the simultaneous occurrence of MLK Day and Inauguration Day this year is an opportunity to reflect on her father’s legacy.
“It’s wonderful that this occurs on the King holiday, the inauguration because it reminds us of King.”
We can assume, I guess, that Derek Chauvin won’t top her list.
Although MLK was hardly some staunch capitalistic conservative. He was a) a Zionist who took trips to Israel and b) anti-Marxist in so that as he saw it as a fundamentally atheist enterprise and ideology, a sort of anti-christ substitute for the Gospel.
Bernice unfortunately is more Marxist than Biblical at least the sentiments she expresses.
On the flip side, MLK’s niece, Alveda King is very spiritually Christian, has devoted herself to the pro-life movement, and was present at Trump’s event last week :)! I’d like to learn more about her father, who was MLK’s brother. He died not long after Martin also at a young age. Apparently the stress of the assassination impacted him and his health deeply.
TOO BAD KIM CANNOT GET KANYE INTO PRISON/MENTAL WARD.
