LOS FRESNOS, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The owners of Abby’s Bakery in Los Fresnos, Texas have been charged with harboring people illegally present in the U.S. and aiding and abetting the harboring, according to a criminal complaint.
Leonardo Baez and Nora Alicia Avila-Guel identified themselves to authorities as the owners of Abby’s Bakery and were charged after eight people present in the country illegally were found at their business on Feb. 12.
Abby’s Bakery in Los Fresnos, Texas (Photo taken by Jorge Vela/ValleyCentral) Baez and Avila-Guel admitted that they knew the people were unlawfully present in the country and that they harbored them in the property that they personally owned, according to the criminal complaint.
Two of the people present in the country illegally identified Baez and Avila-Guel as the bakery owners and the duo that harbored them and others.
According to the complaint, the apprehension of the individuals was the result of a worksite enforcement action.
“Post event, the facts of the event were presented to the duty AUSA, who agreed there was sufficient cause for a complaint for harboring and accepted prosecution,” the complaint stated.
ValleyCentral obtained the documents concerning this arrest just one day after a video posted on Facebook showed what appears to be an ICE raid at the same location.

If Governor Phil Murphy of NJ can get away with hiding illegals in the apartment over his garage, then why can’t these people in Texas do the same?

I have read that you are only harboring an illegal if you don’t turn them over when asked or you don’t let them search your home, if the illegal is staying there.

I saw an episode of ‘Criminal Minds’ that was similar to this. At a minimum, the Los Fresnos police should dig up the bakery’s basement.

I agree. And, the owners of Abby’s Bakery were cheating and thus taking an unfair advantage over similar businesses that employed American citizens in that they were likely paying lower wages. Not to mention the question of “What did they do with Abby”?

Phil Murphy backed down and admitted he fabricated the story about harboring an illegal less than 24 hours after Tom Holman said he was gonna pay him a visit.
Maybe there is no “Abby”, and never was. Sort of like Aunt Jemimah. Maybe that name sounded American enough to catch the attention/ patronage of non latinos, so it was chosen to ‘widen the tent’.
