Ten Years and $7.5 Billion Later, No New Water Storage in California
Breitbart ^ | 02/20/2024 | Joel B. Pollak

Posted on 02/20/2025 5:46:45 AM PST by ChicagoConservative27

No new water storage infrastructure has been built in California, more than a decade after voters approved a $7.5 billion water bond in Proposition 1 of 2014.

The San Jose Mercury-News reported Wednesday that officials are deciding what to do with nearly half a billion dollars of available cash after the “collapse” of a project to expand the Los Vaqueros Reservoir, which is east of San Francisco.

Other projects have received funding for planning and permitting, but nothing has been built.

The newspaper noted:

A majority of the seven board members of the California Water Commission, a state agency that distributes funding to build reservoirs and other water projects, indicated they are leaning toward dividing up the $453 million left over from the Los Vaqueros project and giving it this year to six other major new reservoir and groundwater storage projects currently on the drawing board around the state.

The bond can provide up to half the costs of projects, which are designed to store more water in wet years to offset shortages in cities and farms during droughts. But they have been slowed by the COVID pandemic, cost increases due to inflation, permitting delays and other problems, including the inability of local water agencies sponsoring them to come up with all of the matching funds. …

Only one of the six projects the commission has approved is currently under construction.

All states need to be audited at the state level. In my state the local, town, and county are audited by the state auditors to make sure they are following the law. The problem at the state level, the state would hire outside auditors or use their existing in house state auditors and nothing will be accomplished. In other words, the taxpayer will get “screwed”

How can this get resolved? is the question.

--- "Ten Years and $7.5 Billion Later, No New Water Storage in California"

But at least California has spent many billions on a high-speed rail system and not completed a single usable stretch in the Central Valley.

"California is a cesspool." Indeed, and Democrats have been in charge. Thankfully they will spend $ 50 million more resisting President Trump.....

Democrat millionaires are made, not born.

And they don’t make themselves!

If you spend taxpayer money on the things you promise there won’t be any left for the crooked politicians to scam.

It’s a simple concept to understand, really.....

The dam that forms Lake Shasta, the state’s largest reservoir was designed to be raised so that the capacity could be doubled. Regulation and various interest groups have prevented the construction.

Not all of the state is a cesspool.

“””always more worried about some bug or worm than the citizens”””

They won’t allow any logging, brush clearing or any other forest management services in order to protect a bug, worm, bird or plant. Instead, the forest burns every year and then the ensuing mudslides wash the bug carcasses out to sea. GENIUSES.

Those little bugs, worms and fishes are very powerful.

They have made many politicians and bureaucrats multi-millionaires!

I am really starting to wonder how much of our tax $$ is funneled back to Leftists in one form or another. These includes money for infrastructure projects. It would explain why the Left has grown so much over the last 3 decades. They feed out of a big $$ trough for spouting their ideology.

“The state has moved at a glacial pace to build new water storage facilities, thanks to environmental concerns and bureaucratic obstacles, and no major dams have been built by the state in over 40 years.”

It seems that Democrats can’t get anything done, beyond politics and graft.

Just like their high speed rail ... just keep giving us billions and sooner or later we will get it done.

Yeah, but I bet they “studied” TF out of it.

Well, consider the money like a serving bowl of soup. Around the table are a number of eaters (grifters). Each person is dealt a ladle of soup to start. This is akin to administrative overhead. The longer the time the course lasts, the more ladles get served. When the time comes for the next coarse, little remains in the serving bowl, however, the grifters have been satisfied.

Bass has announced that she is now running two investigations internally as to why she went to Africa. The level of arrogant absurdity and stupidity on the people of California and the blatant sh## thrown in our faces having to hear this and demand we believe it. This is what’s running the state directly down the toilet
