House panel advances budget resolution after marathon meeting

The House Budget Committee advanced a budget resolution after a marathon meeting on Thursday, clearing the first hurdle in the GOP conference’s effort to pass President Trump’s legislative agenda.

The panel approved the budget resolution in a party-line 21-16 vote, sending it to the full chamber for consideration. It remains unclear when Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) plans to bring the measure to the floor. The House is out of session next week and is set to return to Washington on Feb. 24.

Now Congress can get out of town and return in a week or so. The off-putting lack of observing a real schedule frustrates me. They hurry it up so they can take a week or so off. Sheesh!

Now let’s have a ‘regular order’ budget for the first time in 15 years.

A week in this administration is like four years in any other one.

It shows just how out of touch Congress has become these days.

And the details:

///////////////////////////////////////////////////
The resolution outlines a $1.5 trillion floor for spending cuts across committees with a target of $2 trillion, a $4.5 trillion cap on the deficit impact of the Republicans’ plan to extend Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, and $300 billion in additional spending for the border and defense. It also increases the debt limit by $4 trillion.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////

They ain’t cutting $1.5-$2T in spending this year. That’s probably more than exists for discretionary (i.e. cuttable). The interest on the debt and mandatory spending overwhelm that. The para starts with the offering to the Freedom Caucus.

But reality? It’s spread OVER TEN YEARS. It’s complete crap.

How do you know it is complete crap? From the last sentence.

How about for EVERY dollar of waste, fraud, or abuse that is found in EVERY SINGLE FED GOV department, that department, IMMEDIATELY... gets their budget cut by an equal amount.

Well “resolution” means they ain’t gonna pass a budget. They just call them “spending packages” (“borrowing packages” really) or “reconciliation”.

What does this “resolution” mean in this context anyway? Constitution says a budget must be introduced by such and such a date, they haven’t done that since 1996 or thereabouts. Last budget was 2012??

One thing among many that the courts screwed up (sound familiar?) Presidents used to be able to line item veto specific things in the budget. Went away in the Nixon era.

Math is undefeated.

It will require mass execution and confiscation of those dead people’s estates to reduce the debt to something manageable.

Congress operates on this weird schedule where they meet for so many weeks then go back to spend a week in their districts.

It is frustrating but I think it healthy if they get out of DC to where their local people can get at them

For about 2-3 decades now the norm has been these Congresscrititers go to DC and come back and tell their districts what DC told them to do.

With the rise of MAGA, I think these congresscritters are hearing a lot more what their Districts think should be going on in DC. That is a good thing.

“Math is undefeated.”

One of my favorite sayings is “the math will always win.”

“It will require mass execution and confiscation of those dead people’s estates to reduce the debt to something manageable.”

How many trillionaires do we have?

Not enough to keep the execution numbers down.

I asked ChatGPT for the total wealth in the US. $40T.

After this year’s debt increase, we could kill off the whole population, confiscate their net worth, and probably have only $1T of working capital left over.
