Trump's anti-media rhetoric turns to action

Blocking reporters from covering news events at the Oval Office. Ousting journalists from their working spaces in the Pentagon. Investigating public media companies that are often the targets of conservative attacks.

In the three weeks since he returned to the White House, President Donald Trump and his administration have moved beyond his usual anti-news media rhetoric to take a variety of actions that have limited some outlets’ access while hitting others with lawsuits and directives that critics say are naked attempts to bend news coverage to his will.

“I don’t know if Trump himself has a ‘game plan’ per se, but it is clear that the overall picture is of an Administration that disdains a free press,” Rebecca Hamilton, a law professor at American University, said in an email. “Their view — and this is evident from Trump’s rhetoric, his prior lawsuits, the Pentagon office space memo, and the FCC investigations — is that any media outlets that don’t align themselves with Trump’s agenda are the enemy. This reflects a fundamental disrespect for the principles underlying a democratic commitment to a free press.”

In what may be the most glaring example of that, Associated Press reporters were blocked from covering Trump at White House events for two days in a row after the AP continued to refer to the body of water just south of the United States as the Gulf of Mexico instead of the Gulf of America, the new name Trump gave it in one of many executive orders he has signed since he took office. The AP Stylebook, which many news outlets use, including NBC News, published an update two days after Trump renamed the gulf on Jan. 21 that said the AP will continue calling it the Gulf of Mexico

False. Access is a privilege not a right. You can go ahead and report all you want. No one is stopping you. What is being stopped in abusive punk behavior by out of control egos who think they are the story.

What a stupid, biased article. No wonder Trump doesn’t want them in his office. I wouldn’t let them in my building, much less my office.

I really wish that Trump was as oppressive to the media as these drama queens say he is.

“their working spaces in the Pentagon”

It’s not your workspace, it is the taxpayers property and you are not entitled to it. There are more media outlets that want access than there is space so it needs to be shared and rotated if it is going to be made available at all. I personally think they should not be given space and it should be first come first serve or the space should be available for rent to the highest bidder.

This “Prof” is another one of these totally devoid of any rational ability who chooses to cling to emotion based personal political dogmas and irrational feelings.

Trump has been the most accessible President to the Press in the last 60 years. Compared to both Obama and Biden who treated the Dinosaur Media with contempt, Trump is talking to them 3-4 times a week.

Why should journalists be respected and deferred to who were bootlickers as to the addled Biden and who are now hostile to Trump?

“..... bend news coverage ....”

Why is news coverage bent? If news coverage is true, why bend it?

The problem is not a “free press”—it is a leftist enemy press.

Once that is understood President Trump’s game plan becomes clear.

Also, the media is screeching because PDJT is putting an end to the DoD giving $9 million to Reuters. Their gravy train is over.

attempts to bend news coverage

LOL, so if he instead bribed them through USAID or privately threaten them to censor,it'd all be good.
