Jeep’s Pop-up Ads Are Driving People Mad At Every Stoplight

It’s no secret that car manufacturers are getting creative with their revenue streams through subscription services and paywalled features, but some moves are pushing the boundaries of consumer patience. A Jeep owner recently shared his frustrating experience about a pop-up ad that relentlessly invades the infotainment screen, with no ability to turn it off, every time his car comes to a stop. Welcome to the future of driving, where your car tries to sell you something while you’re stuck at a red light.

The frustrated Jeep owner took to Reddit to share his ongoing battle with the incessant pop-up ad. From the looks of it, the vehicle in question appears to be an older Jeep Grand Cherokee, featuring the ever-present UConnect infotainment system.

The Ad You Can’t Escape

So, how does this work? It’s simple. Every time you stop the car, the screen greets you with a message that reads: “Purchase Peace of Mind.” Apparently, Jeep’s idea of peace of mind involves your wallet. The ad pushes the FlexCare Extended Care Premium Plans, the warranty program that took over from Mopar Vehicle Protection last year.

Infotainment screen, on a jeep no less. There’s the problem with the price of cars.

Much like the browser-wars and legal battles back a few years, vehicle communication and entertainment systems are next. Why do you have to even have one if you do not want the option? Why not offer a variety instead of only one?

Jeep markets itself as giving you the ability to get away from it all. Now it’s making sure you can’t escape.

One more reason not to buy a Stellantis product.

My nephew makes fun of my old car.

He knows I hate all the junk in new cars.

“You are never going to buy a new car, are you.” he says.

We all have a good laugh about it.

Hopefully President Trump will get rid of all of the stupid mandates and some car manufacturers will figure out how to keep it simple for some of us.

Strange. I don't seem to be able to get popup ads on my vehicles.

Stellantis says the ad was part of an in-vehicle message designed to inform Jeep customers about Mopar’s extended vehicle care options…a temporary software bug had affected the ability to opt out immediately in a few isolated cases.

I HATE “opt-out.” Almost as much as I hate self checkout at the market, having to bag my own groceries, useless phone voice robots and completely useless computer chat bots.

I’m an old grump who remembers a far simpler, more customer friendly world.

But, FR is nice.

Hopefully President Trump will get rid of all of the stupid mandates and some car manufacturers will figure out how to

build a quality simple vehicle(s) for well under 30k that people have been hoping for for decades.

Taxis, dental offices, banks, airports - too many want to shove a screen in peoples faces.

infotainment scree??

This is exactly what you do not need in a car. The more junk they add the more they charge the sucker.

"I HATE “opt-out.”"

Some power companies are installing "smart meters" which people report raise power rates. They offer an opt-out but you have to pay for it monthly.

They get you coming and going.

Was pumping gas at an ARCO station recently. On the pump screen had to watch a freakin’ commercial before inserting the credit card for payment. Peed me off and annoying.

I agree with you on the self checkout. Lowes in my area has ONLY self checkout and I stopped shopping there because of this. Also a few other supermarkets have it. I told the folks at Lowe's that nothing says FU to the customer like self checkout.

Yes, while not at an Arco, I was at a WaWa — and I had to watch about two minutes of crap before I could actually pay for my gas.

I like the screen for a backup camera. Would happily do without the rest. Not a big deal on my Tundra which is my only post-2019 vehicle. New ones boast of things like 12” screens.

I don’t plan to buy another car until they stop making 3 cylinder cars that shut down a cylinder (or more) at stop signs and insist I want a computer screen instead of an instrument panel...
