KYIV, Ukraine (AP) – Ukraine’s Defense Ministry is offering new financial and other benefits that it hopes will attract men between ages 18 and 24 to military service, as its short-handed armed forces toil on the front line against Russia’s bigger army in the almost three-year war.
Men in that age group are currently exempt from the country’s draft, which covers men between 25 and 60 years old. Last spring, Ukraine lowered the conscription age from 27 to 25, but that has failed to replenish ranks or replace battlefield losses.
Also, some draft-age men have moved abroad, while desertions have undermined the army.
Ukrainian forces are slowly being pushed backward in some eastern areas, as uncertainty has taken root over whether the Trump administration will keep sending vital military aid. The Biden administration had urged Ukraine to lower the draft age to 18.

Over a year ago there was video footage of conscript ions of men being conscripted regardless of their age. Recruiters were ordering pizza and conscripting the guy who delivered. Disabled much older men were conscripted.
Recently, a MIG maintenance crew and some of their pilots were being sent to the front lines so they went public in a bid to save themselves. So I can’t imagine how much it ‘burns’ to see money offered like this.
This old man does not think it is worth sending any of our troops outside of our own borders.

Russia’s military is offering recruits in the southern Samara region a record 4 million rubles ($40,600) to join high-risk assault squads in Ukraine, the independent investigative news website Vyorstka reported Friday.
New soldiers are informed of their assignments to these assault groups shortly before deployment, according to the report. Some recruits and their wives cited survival rates as low as two out of 50 soldiers returning from recent attacks.
The amount of training provided varies between two days and two weeks, highlighting the Russian military’s urgent need for frontline reinforcements.
“This 4 million right here is easy money,” one unnamed soldier who traveled to Samara for the one-time payment told Vyorstka. “Of course, they’re going to send us to get slaughtered. Nobody in our country just throws money around.”
The soldier said he submitted a written request to cancel his contract after learning about the deadly nature of the deployment. Vyorstka did not specify whether his request was granted.

Very similar to Finland's result in WW2 when they signed the Moscow armistice in 1944 resulting in losing 11% of their country but still retaining its independence.
