Ukrainians in Kyiv were left bewildered and frustrated on Tuesday after US President Donald Trump suggested their country "may be Russian someday".
Addressing Moscow's nearly three-year invasion in a Fox News interview aired Monday, Trump said of Ukraine: "They may make a deal, they may not make a deal. They may be Russian someday, or they may not be Russian someday."
"It is some kind of senile insanity," Kyiv resident Daniil told AFP.
"He just wants to stand out somehow," he added, suggesting Trump was attempting a different approach to previous mediators on ending the war.
Others questioned the US leader's grasp of the conflict.
"Trump does not know at all what Russia and Ukraine are, and the relationship between Russians and Ukrainians," said Sergiy Prokofiev, another resident of the capital.
"His assistants... probably present to him some not-very-true opinion about our situation."
The Kremlin seized on Trump's remarks, saying that the situation in Ukraine "largely corresponds" with his words.

I’m so happy to hear this important report from “citizen Daniil” and trying to compare its importance to anything President Trump says.
Zelensky can go pout in a corner.
Yeah. Daniil was all on board with "Oatmeal-for-Brains" signing blank checks to send money over.
You keep going as you are and have been, Daniil, and you will be part of Russia before you realize what has happened.
They started off Russian.
Kiev is where Russia began.
The first German, French, or Brit boot that (officially) hits Ukrainian soil will cause the electoral collapse of the government that sent it.
Ukraine sold their country to the US. We can say and do whatever we want.

It’s most definitely NOT “senile insanity”… it’s a clear recognition of the uncertain situation in Ukraine and a subtle suggestion that the fate of Ukraine is NOT a vital American interest.
EUnuch...was the funniest word I’ve seen in a very long time :)
thanks :)
Trump is softening up the Ukies so they’ll do what’s right when the time comes
Trump is thinking outside the box, that is defined as believing Ukraine political leadership as it exists today is potentially some kind of ally of the United States.
Zelenskyy may or may not be the right leader of Ukraine, there is no way of determining that right now.
Cessation of hostilities first, how the peace may be secured next, then discussion of the future relationship of the United States, Ukraine, and the Russian Federation may proceed.
Bad things will happen to anyone who is not outraged, so we cannot know their true number.
It needn’t all of it be. Galicia is Polish, and Romania has a claim on Transdniestria.
The problem is now that the US has been functioning as the economy of the Ukraine for so long now. Their workforce and much of their industrial capacity, along with housing/electricity etc. has been destroyed. So how many years is the US supposed to continue paying for the day to day life of Ukrainians? If Putin will pay to rebuild etc. then maybe Ukraine should be Russian (again).
Romania is not a functioning democracy and all its “claims” will be adjudicated in the court of FAFO.
I hope it happens.
Yeah, because the glorious Russian Army will sweep all before them under the leadership of the great Putin./s
