Libertarian National Committee Chair Condemns Trump Proposal to Take Over Gaza
Independent Political Report ^ | February 7, 2025 | Jordan Willow Evans

Libertarian National Committee Chair Steven Nekhaila has strongly condemned President Donald Trump’s recent proposal for the United States to take control of the Gaza Strip and forcibly relocate its Palestinian residents. In a statement, Nekhaila denounced the plan as a violation of international law and an affront to the principles of liberty and non-interventionism.

On Tuesday, during a White House press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump proposed that the U.S. should “take over” Gaza, rebuild it, and relocate the roughly two million Palestinians living there to other countries such as Egypt and Jordan. His remarks immediately drew widespread condemnation, with critics pointing out that the forced displacement of a population violates international law.

In a statement published by the Libertarian Party over social media on Wednesday, Nekhaila, who became Chair of the Libertarian National Committee this month, said:

"As Chairman of the Libertarian National Committee, I unequivocally condemn President Donald Trump’s recent proposal for the United States to take over the Gaza Strip and forcibly relocate its Palestinian residents to neighboring countries. This plan not only violates international law—which prohibits forced displacement and the acquisition of territory by force—but also disregards the fundamental rights and dignity of the Palestinian people.

"For decades, the Israeli lobby has exerted undue influence over American politics and foreign policy, steering decisions that often conflict with the principles of liberty and non-interventionism that we, as Libertarians, hold dear. This influence has led to unwavering U.S. support for Israeli policies, even when they contravene international norms and human rights standards.

"The costs of these misguided foreign entanglements have been catastrophic. The U.S. has spent trillions of dollars on wars and interventions that have resulted in nothing but destruction and instability. The financial burden pales in comparison to the human toll: thousands of American service members have been killed or wounded, countless more suffer from lifelong physical and psychological trauma, and millions of innocent civilians—particularly in the Middle East—have borne the brunt of these reckless policies. The people of Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Yemen, and now Gaza have suffered immensely, not just at the hands of authoritarian regimes and terrorist organizations, but also as direct or indirect victims of U.S. interventionism.

"The Libertarian Party stands firmly against using American taxpayer dollars to fund war and occupation. It is time to stop sending money and weapons overseas to fuel conflicts that do not serve our interests and that undermine our nation’s foundational principles of non-interventionism and self-determination.

"Furthermore, we strongly oppose any form of collective punishment against the Palestinian population in Gaza, whether executed by the U.S. or the Israel Defense Forces. Such actions are not only morally reprehensible but also counterproductive, as they exacerbate tensions and hinder the prospects for a peaceful resolution.

"The Libertarian Party advocates for a foreign policy rooted in non-interventionism, respect for sovereignty, and the protection of individual rights. We call upon the U.S. government to withdraw from entanglements that compromise these principles and to pursue diplomatic avenues that uphold justice and liberty for all peoples."

Trump has since doubled down, stating on Truth Social Thursday that Israel would “turn over” Gaza to the United States after the war. He reiterated his vision for American-led redevelopment efforts, adding that Palestinians could be “resettled in far safer and more beautiful communities.” Israeli officials have not formally responded, though Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Trump’s initial suggestion in a Fox News interview.

“Libertarian National Committee Chair Condemns Trump Proposal to Take Over Gaza”

Libertarians have NO SENSE OF HUMOR. They’re nearly as bad as Democrats.

Yep.

You notice how no one wants to take them in. No one wants to run Gaza. But everyone is ready to scream at Israel.

"Oh I see your true colors shining through....."

Lead, follow or sit in the corner and color.

I think comments from the Libertarian political party have become politically irrelevant.

Libertarians needed to follow the example of Christian social conservatives, and pick a major party and then work through the grass roots and the primaries to become an increasing part of that party, as Christian socal conservatives did over the years since Reagan.

Libertarians could have had today, much more influence in the GOP, if they have followed that example. Instead, they demanded their Libertarian purity and remain irrelelvant.

Libertarians aren’t really interested in solving problems. They put their ideology above everything else, and their ideology doesn’t work in the real world. It’s basically anarchy with a kind face. Now, if the endless fighting in Gaza could be ended at no cost to U.S. taxpayers or U.S. lives, that would be a good thing - except to the purists.

And when the opportunity for peace is squandered and, 10 years from now, a new war erupts in the region, a non-MAGA president is in the White House, and the country is arguing about whether to send aid to Israel, libertarians will argue that it’s not our problem, the military industrial complex will get their way, and the libertarians will be whining about all the money being wasted to solve a problem that could have prevented. But at least they’ll be on the “right side of the argument”. Purists always are.

Was Trump serious I don’t think so this drama designed to pump up Benjamin Netanyahu’s sagging political fortunes at home and provoke violence against Israel that will help Mr. Netanyahu avoid his corruption trial and any guilty verdict.

I think he’s serious. Think of all the other “crazy” things Trump has proposed in the past then look at how many of them came true.

Yep! Trump has all falling for this epic troll. One of his best.

Now wealthy Arabic countries like Qatar and the UAE have their ears perked up.

“Trump...Gaza Riviera? What the hell did we miss and not see? Want in on that!”

Trump trolled the hell out out of Denmark about acquisition of Greenland. Now the Danes are up to billions more in providing more maritime and air security for Greenland.

Epic! Trump is one card sharp! Didn’t have to spend a dollar.
