Judge to issue ‘very limited’ order temporarily pausing USAID purge

A federal judge said Friday he intends to temporarily block the Trump administration’s plan to place thousands of U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) employees on leave at midnight.

Unions representing government employees sued to stop the shutdown of agency operations and restart the flow of foreign aid frozen by President Trump, who has accused the agency of fraud and corruption to justify its imminent shuttering.

Judge Carl Nichols, appointed by Trump during his first term, said he would issue a formal order later Friday but that a “limited, very limited” order temporarily pausing the plan would be handed down.

“They should not put those 2,200 people on administrative leave tonight,” Nichols said.

I remember some years back that any government worker could be fired...and “with cause” was not an element.

There are at least two issues. One is the workers, and the other is spending the money. The judge may be able to stop or pause laying off the people. But I’m pretty sure the president can stop the flow of money. It seems that both the workers can be laid off and then sue for whatever damages they can get, and the money flow can be stopped dead.

In any case, Trump is no stranger to the courts. My money is on Trump getting what he wants. A court may find later that he owes the workers something, but they’ll be gone. That is a huge win even if the government has to pay some amount of “damages.” That will depend on the employment agreements. We can expect they are real sweetheart deals.

How much will it cost to keep them on staff? That exact amount should be deducted from the judicial budget.

Ok, just tell them to turn in their access cards and take the rest of the summer off.

the “judge” ought happily be personally jailed
for every killing and rape
that occurs because of his/her/them treasonous decree.

Congress needs to take action at once.

How in the world can anyone tell their boss “No, no you cannot put us on paid leave pending investigation into possible corruption and breach of judiciary duty by us”?

This Judge needs to be impeached for mental incompetence to perform his duties.

How in the world would any of these obvious lies be taken seriously by any Judge? Paid Administrative leave would have NONE of these claimed impacts. These are so transparently a lie that the Judge should of sanction the Lawyers for the Unions for obvious fraudulent "testimony".

One woman, dubbed Beth Doe, said she is 32 weeks pregnant and the shutdown could disrupt her birth plan.

Another woman, called Carol Doe, said she stands to lose tens of thousands of dollars and that the “constant barrage” of late-night emails — many derogatory — has caused her “tremendous emotional distress.”

And a man, deemed Eric Doe, said he and his children would be left homeless if the plan proceeds.

Trump should issue an EO saying the govt will no longer withhold union dues. Members will have to send it in themselves.

Like it or not, this is the Fifth Amendment at work.

Unless they are truly at-will employees, they essentially have a property interest in their employment which cannot be diminished without due process.

I hope this is all just the Democrats trying to appease their base with these meaningless court rulings, so they can say, “Hey, we tried!”

Im not sure PDJT can actually commit to the ‘buy out’ model which puts folks on paid leave until September. The Federal money actually runs out in mid-March, unless it’s resolved ( I see the pubbies have entered a CR for defense spending, etc.). I don’t think he can commit funds that are not authorized by the Congress.
Might be better if he just fires them, and let the Unions cry and bitch.

When will Trump recind JFK’s EO allowing federal employees to unionize. Government employee unions are inherently undemocratic... and why in the world should gov employee unions have standing to sue anybody?
