GSA seeks 50% spending cuts, nonvoluntary RIF after OPM’s resignation offer

The Trump administration’s leadership at the General Services Administration is looking to cut the agency’s total budget in half, and looking to reduce staffing to reach that goal.

GSA leaders have notified staff they are expected to reduce total spending across all programs and personnel by 50%. Plans to meet that goal are due to GSA’s acting administrator no later than Friday.

GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service told staff in a town hall meeting on Jan. 31 that senior leadership is developing a plan to cut GSA’s spending by 50%. Potential areas for cuts include personnel, payroll and contracts.

GSA leadership didn’t offer a timeline for implementing the cuts, but employees were told that a nonvoluntary Reduction in Force (RIF) is expected “shortly” after Feb. 6. That’s the deadline for federal employees to accept the Office of Personnel Management’s “deferred resignation offer.”

BILLIONS wasted on leases for no-show workers. 50% at least can be cut from this budget.

In the past 6 days, the number of lease terminations of underutilized buildings has increased from 3 to 22, with savings increased from $1.6M to $44.6M.

The GSA terminated three leases of mostly empty office space, with tenants relocating to nearby buildings in the GSA portfolio. With savings of $1.6M, these are the first steps to right size the Federal real estate portfolio of more than 7,500 leases

www.gsa.gov. GSA employs about 12,000 federal workers. It has an annual operating budget of roughly $33 billion and oversees $66 billion of procurement annually.

I expect Kohl's to have a good earnings report this quarter, as all of the WFH types find out their pants don't fit and there is a run on new khakis before they can show up at an office.

Downside - pajama sales will crater.

I am surprised how fast Trump and DOGE are moving here honestly. I have no objections, of course, but I think one of the main drivers for the speed is that things will have progressed so far by the time the lawfare begins that it will be practically impossible to reverse.

We have the acting FBI director refusing to provide to the White House names of agents responsible for persecuting the J6 hostages. Assume when Pam Bondi & Kash Patel take office, the acting director will be fired and the names handed over.

Looks like the hot shots at the GSA are looking around - seeing the **** show going on elsewhere and are are getting in line before they too are locked out.

Also moving fast is a popular position. Unlike Newt Gingrich who worked behind the scenes quietly to reduce waste without embarrassing Democrats, Trump is throwing haymaker after haymaker at them. This is, I think, a calculated attempt to, among other things, win the midterm elections.

He is proving he can get it done.

Also, his cabinet hasn’t even been seated yet. Let that sink in. What will be accomplished when Patel, Bondi, RFK Jr., and Gabbard start dropping the hammer on government waste and corruption?

Small potatoes. Trump is attempting to splinter the Democrat Party and drive it into extinction.

Which would preserve and expand his working majority in the House and Senate in 2027.

He is setting up a clear choice. Setting up an Alfred Thayer Mahanesque climatic battle that will decide the fate of this nation in the next election.

I hope he wins.

DOJ is the key. Right now Trump/DOGE/ Acting department heads are accumulating names, information and evidence. The actual shit hits the fan when the DOJ uses the information to start prosecutions. THAT’s when the fun begins and sphincters really get tight.

.... I know all of these cuts are necessary .... But I can't help but wonder how many of these deleted employees accross the spectrum of DOGE and upcoming cuts were Trump Supporters and in essence ... voted themselves out of a job .....

That’s easy. None. Federal workers will never vote in a way that could jeopadize their salaries and pensions.

Three out of ten Federal workers are US Veterans and 42% of the Federal workforce is over 50 years of age. Even highly skilled Feds over 50 are going to have a tough time finding jobs. Age discrimination is very real.

I read here tonight that 5000 names have just been turned over. Like, it was a third of them persecuting and tormenting Jan 6 ers. I look forward to them all suffering mightily as turnabout. Bastards.

“Trump is attempting to splinter the Democrat Party and drive it into extinction.”

As far as I can tell he’s united them in (helpless) opposition. While they are unable to act due to their discombobulation, they all know they are opposed and share that with their comrades.

How do you think he is splintering them?

It looks like a third of the FBI was involved in making life hell for J6 defendants.

FBI needs to be given an enema

The Democrats are composed of many competing factions: trans, blacks, gays, lesbians, etc.

The factions will unite against anyone acting against any one faction. But when multiple factions have their interests threatened, they compete for which faction gets priority.

While there’s a lot of waste in government, of all the ‘agencies’ to blow to pieces, the GSA was probably infinitesimally low on the list. Can’t wait for the 13 remaining offices to be selected so I know how many days of travel to figure for my local volunteer fire department to go to handle lease issues with the GSA.
