White House budget office rescinds federal funding freeze

The Trump’s administration’s Office of Management and Budget released a memo Wednesday rescinding a controversial order that froze a wide swath of federal financial assistance, which had paralyzed many federal programs and caused a huge uproar on Capitol Hill.

The decision came amid strong behind-the-scenes pushback from Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill, according to a GOP senator who was apprised of the decision to reverse the policy order.

The reversal was signed by Matthew Vaeth, the acting director of the White House budget office.

One GOP senator expressed relief over the decision.

“Chaos is never good,” the lawmaker said.

I rarely log into Facebook. Last night I wanted to see the action about this funding freeze. I saw, people will starve, dictatorship, evil, see we told you and blah blah from progressive idiots.

Ok I like that nothing is off the table. They should try this a different way.

This sounds like a rogue order by the acting director (probably a Biden loyalist) and not a directive of the Trump administration. This guy isn’t going to have a job for long.

“Chaos is never good,” the lawmaker said.

I disagree. Folks got a taste of what is on the chopping block.

I’m disappointed. I think the freeze was needed and it was clear individual funding wouldn’t be impacted (SS, Medicare, food stamps, etc).

I think rolling it back instead of doubling down and provided additional guidance shows a bit of weakness.

But I’ll take whatever I can get - just give me MORE WINNING!

Not according to our new Press Secretary!

https://x.com/PressSec/status/1884672871944901034

This is NOT a rescission of the federal funding freeze.

It is simply a rescission of the OMB memo.

Why? To end any confusion created by the court’s injunction.

The President’s EO’s on federal funding remain in full force and effect, and will be rigorously implemented.

I saw much the same.

One person I've known since high school - and a typical female liberal - was all wailing and gnashing of teeth about how that mean Trump was taking away Medicaid and student lunches. I tried telling her that those things were not in danger and I explained why. Which was just invitation for her fellow harpies to swoop in.

It would have done no good to stand and fight. I just let them fly on by, thinking that they "won". I can only shake my head in disbelief.

The freeze was likely by Trump. The malicious compliance was by the DS.

It’s like when French cobblers threw wooden shoes into the shoemaking machines, the act which coined the word sabotage. We have three sets of enemies in America, China, jihad, and the bureaucracy.

Just who is in charge of deciding just exactly what is or isn’t Chaos?

Max Smart?

“Chaos is never good,” the lawmaker said.

That's pure BS. That's EXACTLY what the sclerotic, bloated, largely unconstitutional federal government needs to shake it to the core.

What the lawmaker is saying is "Don't upset our apple cart...my checks haven't cleared yet."

So it was the usual weak-kneed GOP fools that piled on to get the freeze thawed after just a few days.

List the names, and start the Primary campaign petitions. Get them ALL out!!!

The freeze put the Federal bureaucrats on note. They know their days and fiefdoms will come to an end.Best to carefully examine each program one by one, and then defund, limit, reform and abolish each program quietly, quickly and efficently. Must have dedicated, serious people in overall authority. Publicize the nonsense and the savings. The American people despite leftist howling will support the process.

This freeze was never going to get passed anyway. But it does send a clear warning that a redefined and better tuned freeze is coming.

The new administrator has the right to review all ongoing programs.

These loans and grants should be pretty easy to slow walk. Question the need and the proposed outcomes, review progress to date to make sure it matches the stated goals and outcomes in the paperwork, and then personally visit the site(s) and the locations of the requesting party

I disagree, careerists and moochers are not shaking in their shoes because there will always be a Federal judge that will enforce the Spending and Appropriation clauses in the Constitution. The Executive Branch is limited on what that body can do.
