Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) will vote against former Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-Ore.), President Trump’s pick to lead the Department of Labor, his spokesperson confirmed Tuesday.
In a post Monday on the social media platform X, Paul took issue with Chavez-DeRemer’s labor-friendly views and highlighted NBC News reporting indicating he would oppose her nomination.
“I’m the national spokesman and lead author of the right-to-work bill,” Paul wrote, linking to the NBC News report. “Her support for the PRO Act, which would not only oppose national right to work but would pre-empt state law on right to work — I think it’s not a good thing.”
Paul added, in a statement to NBC News: “And it’d be sort of hard for me, since it’s a big issue for me, to support her. So I won’t support her.”
Paul also predicted Chavez-DeRemer would garner some Democratic support because of her “pro-labor” views.
“I think she’ll lose 15 Republicans, and she’ll get 25 Democrats. I mean, she’s very pro-labor. She might get all the Democrats, who knows,” Paul told a Fox News Radio reporter.
Paul’s spokesperson confirmed the reports to The Hill.
Chavez-DeRemer, who lost her reelection bid in November in Oregon’s 5th Congressional District, was one of only three Republicans in Congress who backed the PRO Act, the wide-ranging labor law that would rein in the gig economy and boost workers’ organizing rights.

I always look at The GOP as one entity, not a group of individuals. If The GOP continue to buck their voters nature will take it’s course. A few dozen people in Washington will not be allowed to dictate policy to the millions much longer. A study of history will show where we’re might be headed.
Sounds like this nominee is a dud and needs to be replaced.
I agree with Rand Paul. Didn’t like this pick, when it was announced.
She’s a union thug, not sure who advised Trump on this one, but they didn’t do him any favors. She’s toast.
Possibly she’s a favor to the Teamsters boss in exchange for him NOT endorsing Harris?
So, a ‘Chavez’ for Labor? C’mon Trump.
When Rand says,”No”, I want to hear what he says
Dont need to study that much.
Dems will take one of the chambers back in 2026.
Non civil war nonsense.
We will lose a chamber.
More than likely. She won’t be confirmed, so perhaps an easy out.
While he’s at it, he needs to oppose the nominee for Surgeon General who loves Fauci, masks, and vaccines. I hope she wipes out during her hearings.
She’ll get in, Collins, Murkowski and McConnell will vote for the leftist.
In your dreams, fool
She’s apparently the quid pro quo for the Teamsters not endorsing Kamala. Trump is doing what he needs to do to return the favor, but she’s a terrible choice and deserves to lose.
Anti right to work, pro union, both non starters for me. I am surprised Trump would nominate someone with those “qualities”.
They did this in California with Assembly Bill 5 that WIPED OUT independent contractor jobs, one of mine included.
This woman is FOR the PRO Act and it boggles my mind that Trump would pick someone who is AGAINST gig workers. They want us to be employees to be unionized so they're saying our IC jobs are "taking advantage" of us and we need to be reclassified as employees, which of course we won't be so we lost our jobs. She is a dreadful pick.
Sounds like you are reading from a script. ‘We will lose a chamber” What does that have to do with what I said?
I wouldn’t assume this two-party system is going to be around forever. Especially, not when both parties are very publicly destroying the country in just about every way possible. People from all walks of life are noticing. This government has failed badly.
You mention Civil war. I don’t see that happening. No, I’m thinking something closer to what happened as a result of The Weimar Republic.
One more thing. This Trump 2.0 and the lengths that they went to stop him is definitely not business as usual for American politics. Feels like revolutionary times. This presidency feels very different than any I’ve ever seen.
She won’t be confirmed, so perhaps an easy out.“
She is a horrible choice but it’s likely she will be confirmed l think. This feels like payback for the Teamsters not endorsing Harris
I’m not wild about her either.
10 -12 Republicans on the fence right now
