President Donald Trump's administration asked federal agencies to implement plans to return federal workers to the office — including making arrangements for those who live too far away for a regular commute.
On Monday, the Office of Personnel Management and the Office of Management and Budget issued new guidance that expanded on an RTO executive order for federal workers originally issued on January 20.
Specifically, the memo asked agencies to "determine permanent worksites" for employees who have been working remotely full time and include "the steps the agency will take to move these employees' duty stations to the most appropriate Federal office based on the employees' duties and job functions."
While returning to the office may be more straightforward for workers who live nearby, the memo also asked agencies to provide a description that justifies why employees who live more than 50 miles from existing worksites should receive relocation benefits.

Just no.
If they moved out of DC metro area, that’s on them.
Isn’t Vermont where Epstein’s girlfriend lived for a year while they said they couldn’t find her. LOL
If management authorized the relocation, it’s on the agency to move them back.
My thoughts, exactly. They can figure it out or resign.
Be careful.
RTO carries some unintended consequences:
1) Increased traffic congestion.
2) Increased fuel consumption >> increased demand >> higher prices.
Certain circumstances, makes sense.
But you probably had a good percentage of federal employees move out from DC metro area to let's say Gettysburg, PA.
Lower cost of living. But they're still getting paid the DC salary.
And I don't think they asked for "permission". They've been working remotely the past five years❗️
And if they’re living in a houseboat/yacht/whatever can they just motor up the Potomac and jump out at the Pentagon steps?

And the intended one: Mass resignations.

They’ve made a decision that effectively terminates their employment if they cannot be on the job in whatever location their agency stipulates, period!
If management authorized the relocation, it’s on the agency to move them back.

Nonsense

Exactly right!

And the sooner the better!

"Gentrification" driving up the housing prices in those exurbs--and the "comparable property" basis for property tax reassessment of long-term residents.
I used to work with someone who worked on DoD contracts. Surprised everyone when people learned he was working from Portugal.
The more I read and see about this self-made “crisis”, the more I become convinced that “WFH employee” is the same as “non-essential”.
