A law firm suing Southern California Edison said new video appears show electrical arcs and sparking on the night of Jan. 7 at the origin of the deadly Eaton Fire in Altadena.
The security camera video from a Pasadena gas station was obtained by Edelson PC over the weekend. In an edited version of the video, the law firm claims it shows arcing in the canyon where the fire started in a Santa Ana windstorm before flames destroyed homes and businesses in the community northeast of Los Angeles.
The Arco gas station video, stamped with an incorrect date and time, also shows tree branches and traffic light signs blowing in the powerful wind gusts that fanned the Eaton Fire. In the upper right corner of the video, a light can be seen flashing in the darkness.
A few minutes later, the orange glow of flames appears in the distance.
The manager and general manager of the gas station in Pasadena told NBCLA they released the video in a effort to answer lingering questions about the start of one of the most destructive and deadliest fires on record in California.
The Eaton Fire started at about 6:18 p.m. near Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive, according to Cal Fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Cal Fire said.

Mayne sue CA for them preventing people from clearing excess brush and trees form near power lines? Lise can and will fall, that is why you keep the area clear to reduce the risk of fire.
Aren’t the CA power companies already bankrupt after earlier fires?
How much blood can you squeeze from that stone?
Power companies are California’s favorite scapegoat. Big corporations and all that.
Governor Newsom is quite cozy with the Nor-Cal provider: PG&E - lots of $$$ for him.

They could provide no fault homeowners insure via the utilities. It’d be better than watching the lawsuit settlements going to leftists.
Good question
I have been blaming the power companies all along. I think the power demand, due to increased EV charging, has put increased stress on the distribution system. Every power line connection is being stressed so much, they undergo thermal deterioration” due to the excessive heat generated by the excessive current flowing through them. As this degeneration continues these connections become high enough resistance to produce sparks. Just a branch hitting the lines or the lines swaying in the wind causes the connections to explode with sparks which hit the dry vegetation and start the fires.
Those awarded big contracts with the state have to pay the vig to the rat party in that state. Doesn’t matter the experience, ability or success of the business seeking the contract, its the lowest bidder and the one with the envelope under the table
So, other than the editing and the wrong date and time, this certainly PROVES that PG&E started the fire./S
Yes, but then after the editing in the darkness, there was a glow. Obviously, the glow started the fire. /sarchasm
It is not unknown for security cameras and recorders to be set up by inexperienced people with little time .Often the system default time and date is that of the vendor or manufacturer .
This is an EASY FIX. SHUT DOWN THOSE LINES PERAMANENTLY, Abandon them completely then put them for Sale on EBAY for $1. If they want electricitry in Pasadena and Alta Dena, they can BUY THE TRANSMISSION LINES THEMSELVES and assume all liability too.
Why was the underbrush not cleared out?
In an edited version of the video
Propaganda then not news
Shutting down accomplishes two fixes.
No power lines, and no power to the gas station camera.
Hey, without power there would have been no evidence!
Probably it was edited for the same reason as I recently had to 'edit' a video file from my dashcam to show my insurance company I wasn't at fault.
It's a high-res 4K unit and records in 5-minute intervals. And each segment is 774 MB in length, too big to upload on their system. So I 'edited' it down to the 45 seconds of the actual accident and reduced the resolution a bit to get the size down.
Forcing the utilities to provide a homeowners insurance now that all of the other companies, like Safeco, State Farm, Farmers and so many others, are bailing out of California might actually be a great idea.
The utilities have had huge headaches in courts of law being fought off by Environmental nitwits who prefer the lives of trees to the lives of California residents and battle utility company efforts to keep power line rights of way clear.
In the past, the utility companies have done a relatively poor job telling rate payers about these legal issues. But if your utility company also carries your homeowners insurance there is an elevated level of fiduciary responsibility for them to tell you, “Hey, these assholes from the Sierra Club are impeding our efforts to properly clear the vegetation away from the power lines that serve your area. This makes the right of way less safe for the power line operations we depend on to deliver the energy you’ve paid us to provide, and could result in property-destroying wildfire that would end up triggering an increase in your property insurance rates. If you object to that, feel free to phone the Sietra Club, and let them know you do not support them fighting our efforts to ensure safe delivery of energy.”
The general public has not previously pushed back on these idiot greeniacs because the court battles have not been well publicized. Putting utilities on the hook bankrolling property insurance would be a kick in the butt to the vastly elevated visibility these court battles need to stir the public to angry outcry against the meddling environmental stooges that instigate them.
