Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday echoed President Donald Trump's claim the conflict in Ukraine could have been prevented had he been in the White House in 2022.
Putin also said Moscow is ready for talks with the U.S. on a broad range of issues.
In an interview with Russian state television, Putin praised Trump as a "clever and pragmatic man" who is focused on U.S. interests.
"We always had a business-like, pragmatic but also trusting relationship with the current U.S. president," Putin said. "I couldn't disagree with him that if he had been president, if they hadn't stolen victory from him in 2020, the crisis that emerged in Ukraine in 2022 could have been avoided."
Putin's statement was his bluntest endorsement yet of Trump's refusal to accept his defeat in the 2020 election.
Trump also has said repeatedly he wouldn't have allowed the conflict to start if he had been in office, even though he was president as fighting grew in the east of the country between Kyiv's forces and separatists aligned with Moscow...

Oh Lord, the left will have a conniption fit over this. Bring it on.
President Putin might just be willing to walk away from Ukraine if President Trump was willing to give him Senator Lindsey Graham’s head on a Silver platter.
We know that President Trump told Putin that he would bomb Moscow if Putin invaded Ukraine, and that Trump was doing a military buildup against Russia while having American troops in Ukraine training them, and that Trump was arming Ukraine while telling NATO to arm up and quit using Russian energy, all that seems to have been effective as a deterrent to Russia.

Why would he say that NOW?

Actually, the war in Ukraine would not have happened under Trump because Trump would not have sent his vice president to Ukraine ( or maybe to a neighboring country) to give a speech strongly hinting that Ukraine would be accepted into NATO. Russia’s red line in the sand was that Ukraine would never be in NATO. Within days of Kamala’s speech (did she ever give any other foreign speeches?), Russia invaded Ukraine.
Read the facts in post 4, all of those are true.

If the shoe fits wear it.
This is hearsay, rumors and flat out lies. Everyone knows that President Trump would not trap himself into a corner and would in every situation, keep every option on the table until the moment of action. That is part of the art of the deal.
I don't deny that some of those things happened separately but you are the one that has cobbled it all into the specific situation with Ukraine.
Every one of those things happened.
Trump himself is recorded saying that he told Putin he would bomb Moscow.
It is a fact that Trump had troops training ukes inside Ukraine, it is a fact that he was trying to get the NATO allies to stop using Russian energy and to increase their military capabilities, that Trump reactivated V Corps and moved it forward to Poland while building up and modernizing our nuclear weapons and pulling out of the INF treaty with Russia, and that Trump ended the boycott on arming Ukraine and started sending them weapons.
I never was pro-Putin, but slowly but surely, I’m coming around to at least listen...
I never was pro-Putin, but slowly *and* surely, I’m coming around to at least listen...
The Left played no small part in keeping Russia as distant
from US communications as they could possibly be.
If Trump and Putin were found to be chewing the same type of
gum on any given day, they would have impeached Trump yet
again.
Part of the penalty is the war between Russia and the Ukraine,
and the fact it took so long to end.
Trump should reset relations with Russia and move them
toward being our ally vs China’s and North Korea’s.
