Victor Davis Hanson: Elite Europeans Losing Influence Resent Trump
The Daily Signal ^ | 23 Jan, 2025 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 01/24/2025 6:14:44 AM PST by MtnClimber

This is the week of the inauguration of Donald Trump, but it also coincides, not just with Martin Luther King’s birthday—on the same day as the inauguration, but also the meeting of the world’s elite at Davos, Switzerland, lorded over by 86-year-old Klaus Schwab, who, created this organization.

If you don’t know what Davos is, don’t worry about it. It’s not that important, in some ways. I mean, it’s not doing a lot of good for the rest of us.

But it is important because it has aspirations that are quite dangerous. Basically, its premise is that if we got together all of the “smart people”—those are people who have letters after their name, or they live in the right ZIP codes, or they’re wealthy, or they’re professors, or they’re key government officials—and we put them all in this beautiful, idyllic place, they can think up utopian dreams that then can be, from the top down, implemented by hoi polloi: the many.

And they have actual disgust for elected governments because you see elected governments make mistakes. They elect people and then they do the wrong thing. They have these 19th-century borders. They believe in legal-only immigration. They don’t believe in redistribution of money. They believe in free market capitalism.

They are opposed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. And they don’t want to put mandates on corporations—ESG—about the environment and social questions and governance questions. They let the market adjudicate, which you can’t do.

Now the reason that they’re really angry this week is Donald Trump was elected in the United States. And he is a Jacksonian, populist, nationalist, who believes that the U.S. Constitution and the creation of this last great hope for Earth is unique and singular. And he trusts it and its Constitution more than he does these Davos international organizations, who, remember, are not elected by anybody. They’re appointed.

So, Donald Trump immediately got out of the International Criminal Court. This was an international body that, if implemented—in the case of the United States—fully, it would say that a major or colonel in the United States could be prosecuted if he issued an order that they felt was inhumane.

He got out of the World Health Organization. That was pretty much a Chinese-dominated world organization that functioned during the COVID crisis, largely, with the help of Anthony Fauci and Peter Daszak to suppress the truth that that virus was created in the Wuhan lab. May or may not have been a biological weapon. May or may not have escaped naturally by mistake. But in any case, Donald Trump poses the threat to the Davos crowd.

And more importantly, his threat, it is amplified because it works. People who have followed the model of Milton Friedman and free market economics in Europe, in Eastern Europe, in Argentina, and the United States are doing very well.

When the EU was created, its [gross domestic product] was almost—25 years ago—the same as the United States. And then it started to implement these Davos-like issues and laws and policy, and now it has almost a little more than half, half the GDP of the United States, and only about 60% of the per capita income.

So, the people at Davos know that their socialist, globalist model doesn’t work. And they know that people don’t want to listen to them anymore because when people adopt these views, their economy slows, they get poorer, their borders are overrun. Illegal immigrants come and cannot be assimilated or integrated. And the people feel they have less security, prosperity, and freedom....SNIP

I wasn't aware we were ever in it.

The function of the EU is to regulate regulations that have minor stipulations requiring amplification and regulation

Providing jobs by regulating the relegation of regulations ends up being expensive and retards the existence of products and services to be sold

The Yurps....the elitist supporters of the EU have been kneecapped by the abject failure of the EU. Western Europe especially has underperformed the US drastically in the last 20 years and if anything, is declining at an even faster rate now. They are less free, more overrun by middle eastern muslim males and are getting poorer by the day. The people of various countries in Western Europe see it.

Its gotten so bad that the EU had to lean on Romania to cancel an election because a populist/nationalist was going to win. One of the most prominent EU functionairies bragged openly about it and said they would do the same if the AfD wins in Germany. Nobody except them sees the whole European project as legitimate anymore.

Former Censorship Tsar Admits EU Role in Annulling Romanian Election

Thierry Breton, the European Union’s former internal market commissioner, admitted in a French TV interview at the end of last week that the Romanian Constitutional Court (CCR) bowed to EU pressure. It annulled the country’s presidential elections last month, following the first-round victory of the Eurosceptic and anti-NATO, right-wing populist candidate, Călin Georgescu.

Breton—who remains infamous as the EU’s self-styled “digital enforcer”—responsible for the bloc’s infamous online censorship mechanism, the Digital Services Act—boasted about Brussels’ interference in Romania as if it was not only acceptable but even a moral obligation to cancel democratic elections based on the outcome. He then went further to add that Germany can expect the same treatment if the voters dare to elect AfD in next month’s federal elections.

“We have to prevent interferences and make our laws apply,” Breton said, referring to the alleged Russian involvement before admitting actual EU interference. “We did it in Romania, and we will obviously have to do it in Germany, if necessary.”

It’s not the first time Breton has come under heavy criticism for attempting to influence elections. One of the reasons he didn’t get to stay in the second von der Leyen Commission was that he went around the Commission chief’s back last summer and threatened X-owner Elon Musk with “legal repercussions” if he gave a platform to Donald Trump’s campaign.

Breton conveyed similar ‘warnings’ ahead of Musk’s recent interview with AfD leader Alice Weidel as well, then accused Musk of “lying like hell” for suggesting he wanted to prevent the conversation from happening. That’s why the tech CEO called him the “tyrant of Europe” after his latest admission of interference in Romania—and Germany, “if necessary.”

It is hard to be losing your mojo...

But these “elite” are also aged dinosaurs, and the vicissitudes of life are working their mischief on their lives and perceived reputations. They no longer have their energy, and their skills are swiftly eroding.

The attempt to rule by the Smart People is as old as time. It is the recurrent spirit of Babylon, the idea that the world can be wonderful with the right people in charge. Plato even suggested it.

They will keep trying it until Zechariah 14 comes to pass.

I foresee the Reign of Terror occurring again and it won’t be limited to just France this time. Most of the EU is going to end up in flames.

Thank you for adding that.

It amazes me that a sagging EU thinks that it is a good idea to cut off Germany from all fuel supplies.

The Atom Bomb, I believe, has changed the way that the Elites deal with the Hoi Polloi. They used to start international wars to cull the numbers, but now that is too dangerous to them. The massive flooding of Mohammedans suggests, to me, that local tribal warfare is the new solution, in their view.

--- "...these 'elite' are also aged dinosaurs, and the vicissitudes of life are working their mischief on their lives and perceived reputations. They no longer have their energy, and their skills are swiftly eroding."

Nothing better to make elderly faux-aristocrats angry than not bowing to them.

Trump's "walk away" is a large expression of many small expressions as "little" voters lean towards conservative values. Local values. Family values. "Walk away" angers those who cannot understand why anyone would "walk away." Or run. Remember?

The "common market" has spawned an overweight bureaucracy whose only "production" is blather and more blather and many translations of all that blather. Watching "green" eviscerate Germany's production, the massive importation of North Africans erode French culture and more, is like knowing the bridge ahead is out, but accelerating all the same.

Run away!

Something will happen.

Friends from Eastern Europe went back to visit family this past summer.

They said everyone seemed on edge, worried about how they would make ends meet, worried that they could soon be overrun with “migrants”, worried about rape-happy, stabby “newcomers” moving in, etc.

This wasn’t just one person from one country saying this. It’s what several people from different countries said. All those countries are in the EU.

These “smart people”? These special people? The people “fit to rule”, as Hillary said? May they burn in hell.

Citizens are waking up all over the world, not just in the US. And they will wake up in South America too.

The collapse in birthrate was already doing that. No need for wars to do it for them.

Thanks for sharing that.

I’m sure their media is minimizing/censoring coverage of what Trump is doing.

They are hopefully learning the folly of turning their destinies over to a bunch of would-be dictators in Brussels. They need to follow our courageous leader’s example, deport ALL aliens immediately and SEAL their borders.
