The Moscow Times ^

Posted on 01/22/2025 8:07:46 AM PST by USA-FRANCE

Syria’s new government terminated a treaty granting Russia a long-term military presence in the Mediterranean, a deal brokered under ousted leader Bashar al-Assad, Syrian media reported Tuesday. Authorities also said that revenue from the port would “now benefit the Syrian state,” reversing the previous agreement under which Russia received 65% of Tartus’ profits. The report added that Syria’s new leadership may investigate the treaty’s economic impact on the country.

Wow. Russia behaved like a uber-colonialist in Syria. Sucking its money to the Kremlin mothership... 65% of Tartus PROFITS went to Russia. Pure mafioso manners to extort such huge sums from another country. Thank God Russia was defeated by Israel (indirectly) in Syria. Without Isreal this would have never happened.

More like Turkey defeated Russia.

They may be acting like “friends” now, kind of like Hitler and Stalin were “friends” in 1939. But Turkey has been waiting for a weakened Russia to make their move to reclaim the glory of The Ottoman Empire.

It’s quite refreshing to see a country that KNOWS WHEN TO LEAVE a losing cause, rather than adding TRILLIONS in debt in pathetic “Nation Building”, just to be driven out anyway.

So, the Turks won’t let the Russian fleet into the Black Sea, so they’re moving to Benghazi.

Do they have the range to make it to Murmansk?

China is also licking its chops over Siberia.

Putin has done such a great job of weakening Russia with his idiotic Ukrainian misadventure.

Yep. Even if he ‘wins’, it’s a pyrrhic victory.

**Putin has done such a great job of weakening Russia with his idiotic Ukrainian misadventure.**

Hitler did the same thing declaring war on the US after Pearl Harbor. He didn’t have the long range bombers that could take out the factories in Detroit. Not too smart.

I smell Obama and/or Biden as well, maybe even Jimmy Carter, but I don't know for sure.

Russia’s got to find a new base? Libya Perhaps? Yemen? Cuba?

If the Ukraine War has proven anything, it's that Russia is likely just a paper tiger. At this point, I have to doubt that their nuclear arsenal has been well-maintained and is in working order. Their military budget is less than 10% of ours, AND they have massive infrastructure issues that we don't have (just from their size). How do they maintain a Top 5 Army, a 5th generation Air Force, a viable Navy, a military satellite program, AND the largest nuclear arsenal, all on a Dollar General budget?

(I'm confident that our military budget has massive amounts of fraud and waste and kickbacks, but even if it is 30%, then our budget still tops Russia's many times over.)

According to DJT Monday night, the’ve lost a million men. They’ve taken out 700,000 Ukrainians. Not a good look. I remember them leaving Afghanistan with their tail between their legs too.

Knows when to leave? You make it sound as if they did this voluntarily. In reality they were thrown out. 🤣🤣🤣

“Knows when to leave? You make it sound as if they did this voluntarily. In reality they were thrown out.”

Then you haven’t followed this closely - they WANTED Russia there to defend them with Turkey salivating over their lad, but Russia knew what a mess Syria is to become, so they bolted. I realize the claim by the Western Media, the same media that insisted that Russia is ALMOST OUT OF MISSILES, over and over and over, starting 2 months after the war began. So you REALLY expect them to be honest here? Really?

I think the Russian Plan B is to build a new base in Algeria or Libya.

“ I wonder if this not some of the “Trump Effect”?”

Would be nice if the Syrians negotiated a deal with the US. Delivery of oil and LNG to that port will scare the crap out of Iran.

It’s been a losing cause for years, and Russia stayed anyway. At this point, without the support of even a puppet government, there wasn’t even any place to stay.
