Teamsters union members working at Costco Wholesale locations across the country voted to authorize a strike on Sunday, with more than 85% of members in favor of hitting the picket lines.
The union represents more than 18,000 Costco employees nationally.
"Our members have spoken loud and clear -- Costco must deliver a fair contract, or they'll be held accountable," Teamsters General President Sean M. O'Brien said in a press release Sunday.
"From day one, we've told Costco that our members won't work a day past January 31 without a historic, industry-leading agreement. Costco's greedy executives have less than two weeks to do the right thing. If they refuse, they'll have no one to blame but themselves when our members go on strike."
The union says "fair wages and benefits" are the catalyst for the strike.
According to the union, the wholesale giant recently reported $254 billion in annual revenue and $7.4 billion in net profits, which marked a 135% increase since 2018.
"Yet, despite these record gains, the company refuses to meet the Teamsters' demands for fair wages and benefits that reflect the company's enormous success," the union said.
In preparation for the strike, last week hundreds of Costco Teamsters nationwide organized practice pickets from Hayward, California, to Sumner, Washington, and Long Island, New York.

When the self-checkout machine balked at all my inputs due to the wine bottle I scanned, the fat black woman DEI clerk at Costco yesterday said to me exactly,
“You’re not the best candidate for self-checkout, are you?”
Yeah. Me and my millions, retired, IQ 140, 15 years at Microsoft, 3 IPOs in technology. I’m the problem.
Idiot. Go ahead and strike. We’ll be fine.
Go right ahead.
Sams’s will still be open. I don’t go to Costco anyway. I don’t like union ahos.
I thought that Costco was already a leader in good pay and benefits for their employees.
“I thought that Costco was already a leader in good pay and benefits for their employees.”
Literally NO COMPANY pays enough or has sufficient benefits for the labor unions, which is why they have to be OUTLAWED.
It will be interesting to see how Conservatives react to labor screwing them over by going on strike. Maybe they’ll realize that ‘Costco is NOT their friend’.
Hilarious. Costco is the warehouse club of choice for the left, and they still want to go on strike. Love when uber-progressive companies get eaten by their own.
I talked to a new employee the other week. He was very happy, informed me of starting pay being good and they have a fixed schedule for giving raises....thought it was great.
what are these employees thinking ? Unskilled retail workers can be easily replaced, they wont even need to speak english in that bizness, retail, grocery and fast food outlets are quickly becoming AI vending machines
Just to stand there and scan items people brought to you?? Or stand at the door and scan receipts?
Or are the person putting the bun around a hot dog??
Teamsters and “fair” in the same sentence is a little hard to digest.
Sean better play this right, or the customers may effectively boycott and starve both Costco and the Teamsters.
This is a legit private sector issue
>> Or are the person putting the bun around a hot dog??
exactly — quite different than losing limbs in a steel mill.
f’ing illiterate sea cow.
๐ Great story!
Back in my days in corporate management I used to joke that Iโd LOVE to deal with a union. For one thing, it would have meant negotiating with one party instead of having 60+ separate salary reviews for my staff every year.
Apparently corporates recently renewed support of DEI hasn’t mollified the rank and file.
a 3% profit margin but the idiot marxist democrats will still say “record” profits while demonizing them.
It’s also a funny thing when the demos were celebrating that Costco will still cling to the fialing DEI policies. That’s rich coming from a company where 90 % of the hard goods are made in China and the food is from EVYIL mega corporations.
That remark was totally uncalled for. I would have had a chat with her manager if for no other reason than discouraging her from insulting other customers.
What exactly do these people think their leverage is?
There are a lot of people out of work that will accept $35/hr right now.
Stocking shelves and checking receipts are not skills. Anyone can do it.
