Long-lost secret diaries of 'Hitler's English girlfriend' are today unveiled by the Mail.
In a world publishing coup, aristocrat Unity Mitford's leather-bound journal reveals fresh insights into the dictator widely reviled as the most evil man in history - whom she worshipped.
One of the famous Mitford sisters, Unity gushed about the Nazi monster in her flowing handwriting.
Decades after her diaries were lost to historians, their discovery by the Mail is set to cause a global sensation.
The young upper-class beauty scandalised British society by fawning over Hitler and becoming closer to him than any other Briton. She confided secrets of their extraordinary liaisons to her daily diary over five years running up to the Second World War.
This precious record has never been seen before, but now in a world exclusive the Mail is able to reveal it to the public for the first time. It will be showcased in a landmark series in print, on MailOnline and via gripping podcast episodes debuting today, offering a treasure trove to historians.
The diaries are packed with intimate and horrifying revelations about Hitler and the Englishwoman who became his sycophantic confidante.

Did Adolf ever pay her any shaddap loot? Could be a felony.
I missed what the bombshell revelations were.
“most evil man in history”
He was certainly evil, but I don’t think there was anything unique about his level of evilness.

BTTT
People confuse body count with evil. Hitler is the evil guy with the most dead. Maybe Atilla the Hun could beat him on a percentage of population basis…
“I missed what the bombshell revelations were.”
That he actually had two?
She was Springtime for Hitler.
I propose Mohammad as the champ, based on what his ideology delivered.... More than that "thousand year" Reich in terms of time, and more in body count too.
I’m waiting for the full details about Edward VIII and his Nazi sympathies and why he was forced to abdicate (I suspect that Wallis Simpson was a convenient excuse). And I’d also like to know more about why Hess parachuted into Scotland in 1941. I think Britain’s involvement in WWII is a lot messier than we generally think. Unity Mitford, as well as her sister Diana Mitford, who married Oswald Mosley (British Union of Fascists), are talked about, but the whole scene went much deeper.
I can’t say I saw any, either.
Nor any evidence that she was a girlfriend. Certainly wanted to be, to the point Eva Braun tried to have her arrested. That was the juiciest bit.
Pretty much the limit of information is she went to lunch several times and she sat at Hitler’s table with a bunch of other sycophants.
The Gestapo thought she might be an English spy. They were wrong.
She had a Jewish German language teacher she liked and a gay friend, both of whom ended badly I think.
I mainly got out of this that she was a crazy git.
The Rudolf Hess event has always been of interest.
>> Hitler is the evil guy with the most dead
Not so. He was surpassed easily by Stalin and Mao.
We are not supposed to notice that, because Stalin and Mao were communists so, they’re totally cool and awesome.
Have the diaries been authenticated? Back in the eighties the purported diaries of Hitler were published in a German magazine. There was huge hullabaloo about it, but it turned out the diaries were forgeries. A lot of people lost their jobs and went to jail in the aftermath.
Hess was convinced that the royals would pressure the government to strike a deal with Germany. Basically, declare a truce so the Germans could defeat Communism. Churchill used this to has advantage. Hitler put off Operation Sealion expecting the deal to work out.
And Hess was crazy.
Re “… widely reviled as the most evil man in history …”
Why is he considered any more evil than Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Ceacescu….?
Hitler put off Operation Sealion expecting the deal to work out.
Indeed. The only reason bin Laden stopped at 3,000 Americans dead on 9/11 is because he ran out of airplanes. Had he possessed the means to exterminate every last American on that day, he would have gleefully done so.
