Ohio Lt. Gov Jon Husted, a former Dayton-area state representative, senator, speaker of the House and Ohio Secretary of State, was officially picked Friday to fill a vacant seat in the U.S. Senate left by Vice President-elect JD Vance.
Husted, 57, is guaranteed to have a spot in the Senate until at least December 2026. After that, he’ll face a grueling grind to maintain his place in the chamber, as law mandates a special election to be held in November 2026 to determine who will serve out the remainder of the original six-year Senate term ending December 2028, and another general election in November 2028 for a new term.
In DeWine’s considerations, it was imperative that whomever he picked for the post had the stomach, and the ability, to win two Republican primaries and two general elections within two years.
Husted’s views
As for his positions on controversial topics on the national stage, Husted is staunchly anti-abortion and pro-school choice.
Husted voices support on X (former Twitter) for President-elect Donald Trump’s “America First agenda: strengthening border security, curbing inflation, and creating jobs in the heartland.”
After Republican victories in the November election, Husted posted: “The voters clearly sent 3 messages: fix inflation, immigration, and no men playing women’s sports. As soon as the president is inaugurated in January, it will be time to deliver.”

Awesome replacement
never heard of him.
will hope for the best
at least it wasn’t RINO Dolan
Looks like Dewhinge has learned to read the room.
Awesome? You seem to know him well. Any specifics you like?
I would have to think this was sorted out to some degree before Trump selected Vance.
or Vivek shot himself in the foot
I don’t know if Vivek ever got more than a token look.
He is very pro-small business. He brought a lot of good to the State of Ohio through the years. During 2020 when I had trouble with the Worker Comp system, he actually responded and got my concerns to the right person.

He appears to well qualified if you look at the positions he has held*, he knows how government works and isn’t some wet behind the ears guy .
As far as Ohio goes, it looks like the governor made a good pick, someone who should hold Ohios interests to heart and from the sounds of things will be a decent pickup in the Senate to help Trump.
* Looking at Kamala Harris and the posts she held , one would have expected more. 🙄
Good to hear. I'm always at least a little leery of people who are in politics as a livelihood from the very first of their entire career.
Sounds good to me, just as long as he is an Ohioan who doesn’t claim to be the son of a postman and who hasn’t written a book with hillbilly in the title.
Cool. Great choice then.
Hearing that Vivek wants to run for OH gov.
With Kamala, it's not so much the posts she held as the positions she was in ...
wink-wink, nudge-nudge, knowwhatimean ....
Actually, Vance’s term ends Jan. 3, 2029, not in December 2028.
Husted, 57, will serve until a special election in November 2026, the winner of which will complete the remainder of Vance’s term.
explains the timing of his announcement to run for Gov.
How about ...
The positions she was in while holding the posts?
Looks like Vivek is gonna run for governor.
