Cruz ONLY said water boarding is not “Torture” under the international definition of torture. Cruz Never said he approved of or would advocate using it.
The hearings are not required.
Yay or Nay is required, and a simple majority wins.
IIRC, George Washington originally had it in mind, that he should be able to walk the candidate to the Senate chamber, and the Senate would vote on the spot. He had an expectation that the matter would be settled quickly - that the Senate should respect this proceeding.
If, therefore, Nay wins, the his job to select another candidate.
Instead of the Senate taking over control of an endless process.
Washington expected of the Senate, that it would perform its duty, promptly.
“Advice and Consent” not meaning what the Senate invented.

Hegseth did an excellent job today. Democrats made several crucial mistakes. One, they assumed since he is conservative that means he is a knuckle-dragging idiot. He proved them wrong. Plus, he did a great job of maintaining his cool.
Next they brought out the screeching emotional women to preach to him. The women were extremely irrational which supports Hegseth’s position that women do not belong in combat. As a woman I found their actions embarrassing.
That woman, Senator Ernst, is a disappointment. She seems determined to get nursing mothers into combat. But maybe I'm wrong; maybe Senator Ernst is willing to deny nursing mothers the right to serve in combat.
But it is not just women. When asked on the debate stage in 2016 if girls should be required to register for the draft, Senator Rubio could not get his hand into the air fast enough (to say yes).
Trump seems to have forgiven Rubio for his many blunders; I'm still wary of him.
