The 'eat the rich' response to the LA wildfires is ugly
MSN ^ | January 10, 2025 | Debbie Stowe

Online coverage of the celebrities whose houses have burnt down in the horrendous Los Angeles wildfires this week was met by a dismaying but predictable symbol: the laughing emoji.

Paris Hilton, Billy Crystal and Adam Brody are among the stars reported to have lost their Californian homes in affluent neighbourhoods of the city, like Pacific Palisades.

James Woods even broke down in tears on CNN describing the destruction of his property.

But while some of the people posting comments on social media extended compassion, what sympathy could be found was muted – along the lines of ‘It’s sad, but what about others who are not rich and famous’ – and overshadowed by a deluge of schadenfreude.

‘Awwww poor rich people,’ wrote one follower of the BBC News Facebook page. ‘Lol good, zero sympathy for rich celebs,’ added another.

Can you imagine losing your 4th house! Must be hard. Thoughts and prayers,’ posted a third.

There were many ironic references to setting up Go Fund Me campaigns, while some of the responses claimed that the LA celebrities lamenting the burning of their properties were responsible for their misfortune.

‘Meh, hard to feel sympathy for those who create and benefit from the policies that result in these kind of disasters,’ said one Facebook user.

I am not joyful about the fires.

But I can’t recall seeing this level of sympathy for the Hurricane Helene victims.

My 90 year-old MIL is in WNC. She finally got an indoor room on New Year's eve. It's temporary, but it's warm and has food.

A lot of it here on FR.

For [Pilot] knew that for envy they had delivered [Jesus].
Matthew 27:18.

Envy turns people into murderers.

Yes rebuilding is a very long process, get some architects to WNC to get the ball rolling plus survey companies, etc.

Yeah if nearly all of them were not such self-righteous liberals it would be easier to pity them, but they have spent the last 8 years calling many of us deplorables and garbage and racists and homophobes and xenophobes. They celebrated when we were fired from our jobs for refusing the vaccine and passed over for promotion or not hired at all because of DEI policies then taxed to death to pay benefits ti illegal aliens. Lets just say lacking human empathy may be catching.

Yes rebuilding is a very long process

Only because the corrupt running government gave away trillions fighting wars where we win nothing but death and debt....Then hundreds of billions on millions of illegals they rolled out the red carpet for.

Leftist retards completely oblivious to the fact that what went up in flames was the Democrat Party's ATM machine.

Agree. I do not recall the NFL sending dollars to NC or TN through the American Red Cross as they are doing for LA.

Now, this is not without merit.

I’m sure there are many “regular” folks whose lives have been turned upside down by the fires, but I also wonder why there wasn’t a similar outpouring of sympathy and support for Helene victims, the Lahaina fires victims, and the East Palestine train derailment victims.

The federal government quickly found money for LA, but left everyone else out in the cold, the folks in NC most literally.

LA doesn’t like that we’ve noticed the discrepancy? Sorry about that. It’s nice to know you care about humanity when it affects you personally. Human nature, I guess.

This. Them being rich has nothing to do with it. These people look down their nose at Republicans and Christians at every turn. They have taken every opportunity to mock and spit on God, embrace communism and wokeness, and this time they caught it in the butt.

I know there’s a remnant of good people for whom this description does not match. My heart goes out to them. But to all the rest of the heathen and the sewer pipe of degeneracy called Hollywood, in general? I can only pray that God’s will be done.

The media has been feeding the susceptible this distorted, evil joy for years. Eat the rich…take what you are owed…kill a healthcare CEO because…among a host of other thoughts and words prodded by envy or a self righteousness that forgets you do not have the right to take another’s life.

They expect to be front line because they made certain contributions to certain people. Cantillion wealth flows to Financiers, Government, and their cronies.

It's rough to uproot you life and have to move to one of your other vacation homes either in Jackson Hole, Wyoming or Vail, Colorado or South Beach, Miami. You can't decide, and your therapist is booked up for at least a month!

It will take many years for this to all unwind. It’s not a situation where one says “Whew! The flames are finally out! I’m sure glad that’s over!”

I don’t think LA will ever really recover. Expenses go up, tax revenue goes way down, rich people will relocate. Everything will go into decline.

Film industry? Already on shaky ground. People in the industry will relocate/disperse because of the fire, and because of the general upcoming decline in the area. The entertainment industry is losing one of its centers and decentralization will speed up.

AI is already transforming things. You don’t need actors or voices or film crews. And the decentralization will accelerate that already inevitable trend.

And the Democrat Party will be seen as useless and a lot of their cash cows will no longer give the DNC any milk.

Lots of changes coming, but it will take 10 or 20 years for it all to unwind.
