President-elect Donald Trump filed an emergency petition to the United States Supreme Court Wednesday morning in an effort to block his sentencing in New York v. Trump.
Judge Juan Merchan set Trump's sentencing in New York v. Trump for Jan. 10 after a jury found the now-president-elect guilty of falsifying business records in the first degree, stemming from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's investigation. Trump pleaded not guilty to all charges and has appealed the ruling but was rejected last week by Merchan.

“NEW YORK (AP) — In an extraordinary turn, a judge Friday set President-elect Donald Trump’s sentencing in his hush money criminal case for Jan. 10 — little over a week before he’s due to return to the White House — but indicated he wouldn’t be jailed.
The development nevertheless leaves Trump on course to be the first president to take office convicted of felony crimes.
Manhattan Judge Juan M. Merchan, who presided over Trump’s trial, signaled in a written decision that he’d sentence the former and future president to what’s known as an unconditional discharge, in which a conviction stands but the case is closed without jail time, a fine or probation. Trump can appear virtually for sentencing, if he chooses.”

This may be primarily a matter of pride for Donald Trump.
I suspect, when inauguration date is here , very few people will be focused on the latest dirty trick/ distraction from this judge. People are ready to move on.

Agree. Actually, this lawfare tactic will backfir by providing historic documentation of lawfare battles against Trump.
The Supreme court is a complete joke like our entire justice system. Don’t rely on the Roberts court to take off their clown makeup.
I kinda wish some Republican DA in some red state would have found a reason to file charges against Harris.

Not a question of people moving on. The legacy media will use this against Trump every day of his administration. Imagine for the next four years, every newscast and article about President Trump will start out with, “Convicted felon Donald Trump.”
This guy Merchand doesn’t seem to be too bright? He wants to kick a gent in the gonads 10 days before the gent assumes the position of most powerful leader in the world? The guy must really want his ass handed to him?
As a convicted felon, Trump will be prohibited from traveling to many countries unless those countries somehow waive the prohibition.
Merchan is willing to become a political martyr and take one for the team. He will sacrifice himself so his friends in the media can label Trump as “convicted felon.”
On January 6, 2024 Congress counted the ELECTORAL VOTES and declared Trump the winner of the Presidential Election.
On January 20, 2024 Trump goes through the formality of taking the Oath of Office.
Thus it seems Trump is the President now and only a formality is yet to be done.
