Hochul expected to back funding for universal school meals

Gov. Kathy Hochul plans to propose funding universal school meals in the state’s upcoming budget, a move estimated to cost $250 million. Currently, only $145 million supports free meals in low-income districts. State lawmakers, including Assemblymember Jessica González-Rojas and Sen. Michelle Hinchey, have reintroduced legislation for universal meals after a previous attempt stalled. Attorney General Letitia James also supports the initiative, aligning with federal efforts to expand eligibility for free school meals.

Eight states already offer universal free meals, and a national bill proposes free breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks for all students. Hochul will present her full agenda in next week’s State of the State address.

More waste of taxpayer money. Of course Peekaboo James supports this. Most of the meals are disposed of anyway.

Why not build dorms as well, so the state can more efficiently indoctrinate the youth and siphon even more money from taxpayers.

Blue cities in NY are basically already feeding kids three meals a day

In NY City, Buffalo, Syracuse, when Covid started and kids were not going into school, there was a monumental effort to pack and send food to all these ghetto kids (and a few rural kids in NY Appalachia as well)

Deduct $1 per day from La'Queefa's EBT funds for every meal provided by the government to her whelp.

What is the conceivable rationale for free breakfast, lunch, and dinner for ALL students regardless of income?? And snacks???? Other than foisting Communism on the schools and making kids fatter than they already are.

Good idea, but I would call them "starter" jail cells. It's good to accustom these young to life in prison living. Since most of these ferrals will spend their futures in prison, it would be good to get them trained on the skills they will need to flourish in that milieu.

As I’ve stated everywhere, not that it matters, our city-county-state governments are exponentially worse, financially, than anything that is done in DC.

State and local governments don’t have a federal reserve to print phony money and ignore the bills. But they do have alll the taxpayers too steal from.

Every April, it’s tax time. That code was written by and for the wealthy and corporations. The more you make the more you can take advantage of the tax code. If you’re middle class, you’re kind of stuck.

One thing you can’t avoid is property taxes. No way around it. Good luck arguing with them tax assessor.

Newton Cty, Ga approved meals for everyone. No ke would deny a kid that needs help. But a kid that drives into the student parking lot in a brand new F150 doesn’t need sh*t. And I’ve been told the food is inedible. It’s institutional foods ie prison food.

The purpose is to raise kids to see the government as the all encompassing center for all things, the parent, the boss, the adviser and comforter, the protector, the decider, your meals, your knowledge, your home, your health, you exist in its comforting embrace, it sees you and cares for you.

Guaranteed one of her big donors who either owns the company providing the meals, or has investments in the company will get the contract.

"Blue cities in NY are basically already feeding kids three meals a day"

My niece's husband has worked for the Recreation Department for Rochester, NY for at least 20 years. He's one of the few white guys left. They cut his hours at the rec center he works at during the lockdown, and even though no kids were showing up during that time, he was still required to provide meals, and snacks-to-go for the homeless people who came around throughout the hours he was there.
