Germany and France have warned Donald Trump against threatening Greenland, after the US president-elect refused to rule out using military force to seize Denmark's autonomous territory.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said "the principle of the inviolability of borders applies to every country... no matter whether it's a very small one or a very powerful one".
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said "there is obviously no question that the European Union would let other nations of the world attack its sovereign borders".
On Tuesday, Trump reiterated his desire to acquire Greenland, saying that the Arctic island was "critical" for national and economic security.

Trump gave a blanket statement, but it was pretty clear that when it came to a possibility of military force, it was all about the Panama Canal.
Trump could demand that France and Germany pay the Trillions (in today’s dollars) what it cost America to rebuild those countries after WW11.

Denmark has said it will grant independence, if the majority of Greenlanders vote for it. The majority of Greenlanders want independence, but don’t want to give up Denmark’s subsidies. And Denmark is imposing trade restrictions that make impossible for Greenland to build sufficient wealth to not need the subsidies.
Currently Denmark’s subsidies make up 75% of the Greenland government budget and 25% of the GDP.
All Trump need do is to offer better subsidies.
Purchase is not taking over. The are just mad they don’t have the ability to do it and reap the minerals and strategic importance.

He did no such thing. He was asked if he'd rule out military or economic coercion and he said no, economic. I.e. not military.
Analysis: Trump is changing the political landscape with a populist grass roots movement that's spread to Europe and the rulers of those countries are in political from their own populists SO they need an anti-populist strawman and they created one.
