Speaker-designate Mike Johnson, R-La., was re-elected to lead the House of Representatives on Friday.
The Louisiana Republican won along party lines during the first round of voting, a stark contrast to his predecessor’s drawn-out, 15-round battle in 2023.
It comes despite saber-rattling by some conservatives who threatened to withhold support from Johnson in protest of his handling of government funding and several other issues in the 118th Congress.

WATCH LIVE: Mike Johnson re-elected House speaker on the first ballot in dramatic vote
All those MSNBC and CNN ghouls gleefully wanting “chaos” in DC will be very unhappy.
Yay.🥳
CBS News site even said “now the House can count the Electoral College votes to certify the Trump election victory.”
Some here wisely pointed out the House “tellers” were only town criers, not in charge of certifying anything. Could have gone on without a Speaker.

“All those MSNBC and CNN ghouls gleefully wanting “chaos” in DC will be very unhappy.”
ABSOLUTELY!
I love the contortions of people here at FR that are somehow celebrating the election of a milquetoast repeated caver, that gives everything to the Democrats, like it’s a big win for us.
Crazy times.
I will ship packets of Pepto-Bismol to All those MSNBC and CNN ghouls.
Oh well. I predict trillion dollar deficits to continue.
Very simple reason, I am shocked you did not understand. There is NO ALTERNATE CHOICE who can get the required majority of votes in House of Reps. Wish a real conservative firebrand with a pair had announced a run for SOTH.
Better than a stalemate and never Trump no votes.
Unless you know some fiscal conservative with a pair who had declared a run for SOTH.
Good news. Reinforces President Trump’s power.
Trump just gained even more credibility.
Trump supported him which is good enough for me. The budget problem is systemic, only once in American history has the Federal Debt ever been zero. That was in 1828 . Milton Friedman had the solution decades ago: a Balanced Budget Amendment.
Don't blame him for the narrow GOP majority that gives every stunted loser the ability to pretty much stop any GOP House bill from passing.

1. Counting of electoral votes (January 6-7, 2021)
https://ballotpedia.org/Counting_of_electoral_votes_(January_6,_2025)
This page provides an overview of the congressional certification process for the 2024 presidential election. Congress will convene a joint session on January 6, 2025, to count electoral votes by state and confirm the result of the presidential election.
During the session, one-fifth of U.S. House members and one-fifth of U.S. Senate members may submit a written objection after the body reads the vote count from a particular state or the District of Columbia. Before 2025, the law only required one U.S. House member and one U.S. Senate member to submit a written objection. The threshold was raised by the Electoral Count Reform and Presidential Transition Improvement Act of 2022.
If a written objection is made, the two chambers of Congress separate to debate for two hours and vote on whether to continue counting the votes in light of the objection. Both chambers must vote by a simple majority to concur with the objection for it to stand, otherwise the objection fails. For more information about the objection process, (excerpt)
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
2025 Presidential Inauguration
The 60th Presidential Inauguration is scheduled for January 20, 2025.
1. Swearing-In Ceremony (12 pm ET):
The 60th Presidential Inauguration will take place at the United States Capitol on January 20, 2025. The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) plans and executes all Inaugural activities at the United States Capitol, including the Inaugural swearing-in ceremony of the President and Vice President of the United States and the traditional inaugural luncheon that follows. Please visit the JCCIC webpage to learn more about the history of the Inaugural Ceremonies.
2. Tickets to the Inauguration Ceremony
The National Park Service does not distribute tickets to any inaugural events. Historically, each Member of Congress receives a limited number of tickets to the swearing-in ceremony to distribute to constituents. Contact your Senators or Representative for information about acquiring tickets.
3. Pass In Review (Inaugural Parade): After the conclusion of the inaugural ceremonies and the luncheon at the United States Capitol, the newly-sworn president and vice president will make their way to the East Front steps of the Capitol where they will review military troops before leading a procession of ceremonial military regiments, citizens’ groups, marching bands, and floats down Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House.
The President, Vice President, their spouses, and special guests will then watch the parade as it passes in front of the Presidential Reviewing Stand.
Tickets to the Parade Bleacher Seats
The National Park Service does not receive tickets to parade bleacher seating. Ticket information will be available from the Presidential Inaugural Committee website once the site goes live.
Actually now that they’re officially sworn in, I think the next thing is to head to the bar.
Sorry, it may be the pragmatic choice for now, but I don’t see how it is cause for celebration. Johnson gives the Democrats pretty much everything they want - it was the Democrats who kept him as Speaker in May of 2024! They like him that much!
Well guy, your dude really showed them. Had his dick cut off with dignity!
How very French of him!
I also wish there was a stronger candidate for Speaker.
But also, if he performs poorly, he can be replaced.
NOTE:
House Republicans released a new rules package on Wednesday that will raise the threshold to force a vote on ousting the speaker.
The threshold that allowed a single member to trigger a no-confidence vote to remove the speaker will be increased to nine members of the majority party in the 119th Congress.
The House is expected to vote Friday to adopt the rules package after members elect a speaker and are sworn in.
Leaders of the House Freedom Caucus and the Main Street Caucus, two influential Republican factions, announced the threshold agreement in November as they sought to project a unified front after winning control of the White House and both chambers of Congress.
