Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) detractors are falling in line after President-elect Donald Trump put his thumb on the scale.
Johnson ended the 118th Congress by bungling through a government funding battle – angering conservatives, moderates, and even Trump himself – and his chances at retaining the gavel into the next Congress appeared dire.
Trump, with a single Truth Social post, appears to have saved Johnson.
The once and future president left Johnson twisting in the wind for over a week after Johnson failed to deliver Trump’s ask of raising the debt ceiling through a government funding bill.
With no word from Trump, numerous Republicans had begun to publicly state reservations about voting for Johnson.

I like that Johnson is in debt to Trump.
“You go to war with the army you have, not the army you might want or wish to have at a later time.”
— Donald Rumsfeld
If you got seventy-five or eighty percent of what you were asking for, I say, you take it and fight for the rest later, and that’s what I told these radical conservatives who never got used to it.
~~ Ronald Reagan
If he gets another term, next time he’s in the skybox Mikey’ll be fetching the snacks and keeping the drinks topped off.
I still believe that the porkulous first offering was an opening gambit orchestrated by Trump and Johnson to smoke out the RATS.
If Massie votes against Johnson, I expect he will switch parties this year.
There was a theory earlier this week that Johnson vacating the chair would lead to Jeffries becoming Speaker and he would not certify Trump as POTUS. That was a very scary thought. But the theory seemed plausible and Trump’s weighing in seems to lend some weight to that theory.
Not worth the fight right now. Bigger fish to fry.
Trump is too trusting. 6 months from now, Trump be calling for getting rid of Johnson.
“…that’s what I told these radical conservatives who never got used to it.”
~~ Ronald Reagan
If Trump ever uses the term ‘radical conservative’ em…
No such animal
I sure hope so. We need to get Trump seated as President with no drama attached. If Johnson needs to get replaced down the road so be it.
Yes. Johnson the servant.
That's why the insistence that Johnson govern as a conservative is just unrealistic. He moves too far to the right, and he will create a majority on his left.
That's why both moderates and conservatives in the House have to be willing to compromise to keep the caucus together, or the only winners will be Democrats.
Nothing in your pot is true.
There’s artificial chicken in the pot?
(sorry...)
Nope to any of the above.
And I see no one jumping up and down going "pick me...pick me".
Rand just like to mouth off occasionally...and rile folks. Musk is not really an option and Rand knows it...too many conflicts of interest.
Now here's a clue..."The Art of the Deal".
Yeah, I concur, we’ve a semantics battle that won’t end January 20.
Nothing against Reagan, but that’s what we get for letting the spawn of “Moderates” like Karl Marx and Margaret Sanger define the debate.
Fortunately, there’s new media....
I despise Johnson and want him gone.
Conversely, I have no issue with Trump co-opting him.
Why?
Him Vacating the chair is just like when McCarthy got ousted.
All the speaker hakeem boys around here swore that’d be who get got.
Minus Gaetz, all of Trumps Appointees from the House are to be seated prior to confirmation, so the GOP has 220 or so.
There will not be a Dollar Store Obama as Speaker in 2025, unless some crazy GOP or three decides to vote for him.
