Roberts warns against ignoring Supreme Court rulings as tension with Trump looms
CNN ^ | Dec 31, 2024 | John Fritze

Posted on 01/01/2025 4:02:31 AM PST by where's_the_Outrage?

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts slammed what he described as “dangerous” talk by some officials about ignoring federal court rulings, using an annual report weeks before President-elect Donald Trump takes office to stress the importance of an independent judiciary.

Officials “from across the political spectrum have raised the specter of open disregard for federal court rulings,” Roberts wrote in the report, released by the Supreme Court on Tuesday. “These dangerous suggestions, however sporadic, must be soundly rejected.”

The chief justice didn’t detail which officials he had in mind – and both Republicans and Democrats have hinted at ignoring court rulings in recent years. Still, Roberts’ year-end message landed days before the January 20 inauguration of a president who has repeatedly decried the federal judiciary as rigged.

Trump’s agenda – particularly on immigration – could put the incoming president on a collision course next year with a Supreme Court he has helped to build by naming three conservative justices during his first term.

“Every administration suffers defeats in the court system – sometimes in cases with major ramifications,” Roberts wrote. And yet, he added, “for the past several decades,” both parties have respected court decisions and have headed off the kind of constitutional confrontations that arose during the civil rights era when some southern states declined court orders to integrate........

“The role of the judicial branch,” Roberts wrote, is “to say what the law is.”

But, he added, “judicial independence is undermined unless the other branches are firm in their responsibility to enforce the court’s decrees.”

Think it was Souter that was known for something like: "The law is what I say it is."

Roberts fails to acknowledge that the courts often get it wrong, how often is the 9th circus overturned. And SCOTUS reversed itself on Roe.

So now that the corrupt Biden regime is leaving office, the most blatant abusers of the Courts in recent US history, NOW Roberts speaks up?

What a clown.

Here we see Justice Roberts delivering his latest warning.

We’ve gone through almost four years of a lawless Biden administration. Funny how Roberts waited until now to speak up.

How dare he? He never said a word when the illegit POS Biden ignored SCOTUS rulings and did nothing to stop leaks out of his own court.

CNN “reports” this and I hope people around here can start seeing that undermining Trump has already begun and people on our own side are making matters worse with infighting.

Maybe we weren’t ready for a win. Everyone wants their wheels greased and Trump hasn’t had a chance to take command yet.

CJ Roberts should get off his high horse and look at the man in the mirror.

When ALL courts become activist offering statements of political principles and ideals then Marbury v Madison gets thrown to the wind.

For instance, when a United States Supreme Court Justice goes on Broadway to play a non-binary character named “May,” before addressing a case concerning the constitutionality of a Tennessee law that bars puberty blockers and hormone therapy for so-called ‘transgender’ youths people are less likely to take the Courts opinions seriously.

If Justices are going to play politics then their “decisions” will be treated with the appropriate level of seriousness as statements by any other politician.

So the Dred Scott decision was right? Stare decisis is “all that”?

Thanks, Roberts.

Hilarious that the Alt Left, which has been nothing but abusive towards the Court since Biden took office, now wants to posture as defenders of the sanctity of the Court!

The farce that is CNN goes on.

A libby type nominee. She was chosen, as easy to hustle past the Dems in December. As Biden would soon be the Potato President.

Yeaah? You said nothing about FJB’s repeated flaunting of rulings.

Screw yourself. When you guys ignore the very plain words of the Constitution, you deserve to be ignored.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts is on the young side. But it would still be so nice if he had to vacate. To leave Trump to get a serious conservative appointed as chief justice.

Of course black robe clown Roberts was appointed by Bush Jr. Figures!

Jefferson:

“Contrary to all correct example, [the Federal judiciary] are in the habit of going out of the question before them, to throw an anchor ahead and grapple further hold for future advances of power. They are then in fact the corps of sappers and miners, steadily working to undermine the independent rights of the States and to consolidate all power in the hands of that government in which they have so important a freehold estate.” —Thomas Jefferson: Autobiography, 1821. ME 1:121

“The judges... are practicing on the Constitution by inferences, analogies, and sophisms, as they would on an ordinary law. They do not seem aware that it is not even a Constitution formed by a single authority and subject to a single superintendence and control, but that it is a compact of many independent powers, every single one of which claims an equal right to understand it and to require its observance.” —Thomas Jefferson to Edward Livingston, 1825. ME 16:113

“It has long been my opinion, and I have never shrunk from its expression,... that the germ of dissolution of our Federal Government is in the constitution of the Federal Judiciary—an irresponsible body (for impeachment is scarcely a scare-crow), working like gravity by night and by day, gaining a little today and a little tomorrow, and advancing its noiseless step like a thief over the field of jurisdiction until all shall be usurped from the States and the government be consolidated into one. To this I am opposed.” —Thomas Jefferson to Charles Hammond, 1821. ME 15:331

“At the establishment of our Constitutions, the judiciary bodies were supposed to be the most helpless and harmless members of the government. Experience, however, soon showed in what way they were to become the most dangerous; that the insufficiency of the means provided for their removal gave them a freehold and irresponsibility in office; that their decisions, seeming to concern individual suitors only, pass silent and unheeded by the public at large; that these decisions nevertheless become law by precedent, sapping by little and little the foundations of the Constitution and working its change by construction before any one has perceived that that invisible and helpless worm has been busily employed in consuming its substance. In truth, man is not made to be trusted for life if secured against all liability to account.” —Thomas Jefferson to A. Coray, 1823. ME 15:486

Roberts is a hack. My brother’s law school roommate is related to him, and he detests the man.

How many divisions of infantry does John Roberts command to enforce his court’s rulings?

We have already seen what an insubordinate, treasonous and unconstitutional General Milley has done to undermine President Trump’s authority as 45th President. What did Robert’s Supreme Court do about that?

The U.S. Supreme Court is only ONE of three branches of the federal government and THE ONLY UNELECTED BRANCH.
