Another blue state gives up on having competent teachers
American Thinker ^ | 12/31/2024 | Ed Sherdlu

The combined cabal of woke and the teachers’ unions have struck again.  This time, the target was New Jersey.  Effective Thursday morning, public school teachers in New Jersey no longer must pass even the most basic educational skills test.  The test was not for complicated subjects such as calculus.  This now abandoned test verified teacher’s ability to read, write, and calculate simple math problems.

Jersey governor Phil Murphy approved eliminating even these most basic requirements for teaching applicants in those three essential areas.  Democrat state senator Jim Beach sponsored the bill, further dumbing down the state’s educational system.  Beach said, “We need more teachers!”  Who would’ve ever thought it was okay to have teachers who can’t demonstrate that they can read and write at least acceptably and do simple math problems?

Not to demean the locals there, but Beach represents a southern portion of the Garden State, often called “Slower Lower New Jersey.”  How an elected representative who majored in education in college believes that the students of New Jersey can be effectively taught by teachers who might not have the math skills to make change for 7-Eleven customers was never explained.

One might think that basic reading, writing, and math skills would be a natural requirement for teachers averaging more than $81,000 annually, but it’s New Jersey.  Like in many blue states, there are a whole lot of things that do not make sense there.

New Jersey did not invent the idea alone.  The Garden State is simply following the example of the Empire State.  Seven years ago, New York scrapped basic literary requirements for teachers in the name of the holy grail of “diversity.”

This dumbing down of the educational system is very popular in blue states.  Massachusetts, Arizona, and California now allow teachers to be less functionally educated

friend of mine here in NC decided to home school when they visited their son’s first grade class room and saw a big happy banner with sun smiling, balloons and a note welcoming them to one of the best school systems in the state (Chapel Hill), where the teacher assured them on the banner they would have an year characterized by “excellance.”

Step one is to eliminate bachelor’s degrees in education. Teachers should be required to have a degree in the subject in which they will teach.

Step two is to Outlaw teachers unions.

Neither of the above is going to happen and the educational system is going to continue to degrade because of that.

What is going to happen, although it isn’t going to fix everything, is more people are going to continue to opt out of government schools. So at least some kids are going to grow up not looking like extras in the movie Idiocracy

Step one is to stop deluding ourselves that any of these states actually have an “educational system.” What they have are school systems where education is not a priority and the primary purpose is to employ marginal people at exorbitant salaries in non-competitive environments.

Suddenly, I’m wondering about Musk saying we need more educated, skilled foreign workers. I’m not saying I agree, but if we have schools like this one, who’s supplying the upper tiered labor?

Article would be more persuasive if it gave examples of the test questions. Anyway, i don’t doubt the teachers are incompetent since most of them are DEI.

DEI - Didn’t Earn It. Also - Discrimination, Exclusion, Indoctrination.

Well, that, and fill their kid's heads with propaganda!

“This now abandoned test verified teacher’s ability to read, write, and calculate simple math problems”. Why wouldn’t this be considered “unskilled” labor?

When Democrats are involved, everything has to be dumbed down. Everything. Even candidates for president, vice-president, the media, 'skoolz', and most importantly - standards (if there are any).

Is the ability to count, speak English still a requirement, or can any Tom, Dick, and Harry illegal apply?

All done in the name of diversity. And by diversity, I don’t mean Jews, Chinese, Japanese, or Danes. I mean making everything Zimbabwe.

At least we won’t need any H1B visas for teachers in NJ.

As long as conservatives keep sending their kids to public schools, the government will keep giving them crappier and crappier teachers. For this one, I don’t blame the teachers as they’re not the IDIOTS here.

I have a question...
Why do you need a bachelor’s degree to teach second grade math?
