For the first time in 15 years, Hanukkah and Christmas coincide in 2024: The Jewish holiday begins with the first candle lighting at sundown on Christmas Day. These holidays are an important affirmation of our religious heritage. America was established on a biblical worldview, and it can’t survive without it.
President Dwight D. Eisenhower said, “Our form of government makes no sense unless it is founded in a deeply felt religious faith, and I don’t care what it is.” Ike was not saying that religious differences are unimportant, but that faith itself is what matters.
George Washington — another soldier turned statesman — cautioned in his Farewell Address that “religion and morality are indispensable supports” of political prosperity.

Thomas Jefferson was an atheist, but wrote the Declaration of Independence.

He always believed in a creator God, and the afterlife, so that pretty much means he wasn't even an agnostic.
Federalists tried to call him an atheist, and he praised religion in his inaugural address, he continued to go to services. He may have forged his own path, but he never stopped believing in God.
What the ####?!!! :)
How do you know so much!!??
What do you, read? :)
And you always did write really well.
And I didn’t know any of that. So thanks.
Thanks.
That’s true.
‘America was established on a biblical worldview, and it can’t survive without it.’
💯.
I remember the 1970s. Conservative leaders always spoke about America's Christian heritage.
Then in 1980s the Moral Majority helped the Republicans take the White House and Senate, which panicked Jews. So Judaeo-Christian became the new conservative talking point.
Then in the 2000s Bush switched to faith-based, a still more vague term that casts an even wider net.
We're supposed to believe that America was based on faith, never mind which faith(s).

Hey, troll.
He was a deist.
Constitution was written over a substratum of Judeo-Christian principles.
To a Hindu, or Moslem, or Animist, or any other religious group, the Constitution simply does not make any sense.
To them, why would a potentate limit his effective power? Why would individuals think that they have a will that can challenge the god or king?
“Constitution was written over a substratum of Judeo-Christian principles.”
Truth.
Also, please enjoy these Reagan quotes:
1. Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.
- Ronald Reagan
2. Without God, there is no virtue because there’s no prompting of the conscience. And without God, democracy will not and cannot long endure. If we ever forget that we’re one nation under God, then we will be a nation gone under.
- Ronald Reagan
3. I have wondered at times what the Ten Commandments would have looked like if Moses had run them through the US congress.
- Ronald Reagan
So your Ukraine paymaster lets you take time off to respond to other posts? Who knew.
Reagan quotes are great but too general and generic. He doesn’t go beyond the ‘this is it’ to the ‘it is not this.’
Kind of like patriotism is not assuming that the Russians are the bad guys.
That reality has, of course, freaked out a significant share of White Christians who do not see “their America” as predominate. It was never “theirs” to begin with, and the assumption that something is amiss if White Christians are not in charge is the essence of white supremacy and Christian nationalism. It is also fundamentally un-American; our country is defined, as President Biden rightly says, by an “idea.”
That’s about what I would expect from J Rubin
She must be a real joy to be around - NOT
What would TJ and Dr. Franklin align themselves with today? Pantheism, or just that whatever we don’t have a scientific answer for is what we call “God”?

He was already involved with the Saudis.
