One of the defining moments of Jimmy Carter’s presidency was the Iran hostage crisis.
Retired Army Col. Chuck Scott was one of the 52 hostages held in Iran for 444 days. In an interview with Channel 2 Action News, he said Carter got a lot of blame he did not deserve.
“People say, ‘Yeah, he really screwed up the hostage crisis.’ But how do you know? You weren’t there,” Scott said.
The crisis would overshadow many of the accomplishments during President Carter’s one and only term.
“We looked like idiots. Here we were, the most powerful nation in the world and we had a complete American embassy staff that wound up being slaves, hostages for 14 1/2 months,” Scott said.

Col. Scott, Jimmy Carter didn't get you released, Ronald Reagan did that.
*** The crisis would overshadow many of the accomplishments during President Carter’s one and only term.***
Accomplishments? I remember only tough times.
And a crisis of confidence.
These Iran hostages were very well compensated and all of them returned home alive; contrast that to how little the combat vets got from “president” Carter.
Here comes the whitewash of the biggest disgrace of Carter’s presidency. The hostage crisis wasn’t his fault and besides, he got them all home safely!!!
If Carter had not pulled the rug out from under the Shah of Iran, the hostage crisis would never have happened.
Well, are we allowed to mention the Camp David accords as an accomplishment?
WHAT??? They were released only because Iran was scared of Reagan. If Carter had been re-elected they’d have never been released.
That was another remembered moment in time. I was driving outside Brownwood, TX when it was announced over the radio.
Yes, the Camp David accords are a great positive accomplishment.
Yep. They must have had this guy lined up for this moment. His version fits the dim narrative. Other contrasting opinions will never be heard from.
I remember cancelling the B1.
They only came home because of Reagan.
Most people’s opinion of Carter is based on the msm. Enough said.
Yes, those eight young men serving their country “all came home” but not in the same condition that you did, Mr. Scott.
Total idiot trying to claim victim status as a virtue shield in support of his idealogy. Thank Reagan you jerk, Carter is what made you a hostage.
“Yep. They must have had this guy lined up for this moment.”
That’s what they do, in every situation. They go looking for one stooge that will say what they want him to say (maybe even pay him) and then broadcast it as though it was everybody’s opinion.
Propaganda 101.
Canceling the B1 affected me personally. It resulted in a job offer being pulled. As a result, I wound up leaving Southern California and moving to Texas by way of Colorado. It turns out that leaving Southern California was a blessing in disguise. Myself and my family are so much better off in Texas than we ever could have been in California.
Didn’t some of the Iran hostages refuse to acknowledge Carter when he went to meet them at Ramstein or one if the bases in Germany where they stopped off after coming out of Iran for medical assessments before returning to the U.S.?
It’s been a long time, but I remember something like that.
“But how do you know? You weren’t there,” Scott said.”
Third grade level response that doesn’t really even mean anything.
Carter lost Iran for starters. Being weak and indecisive made it worse.
The entire country had Stockholm Syndrome during the Carter years.
It was pathetic to behold.
