Elon Musk urged his supporters not to donate to the nonprofit that runs Wikipedia after the organization budgeted more than $50 million to spend on controversial diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
“Stop donating to Wokepedia until they restore balance to their editing authority,” Musk wrote Tuesday on X, where he has nearly 210 million followers.
The Tesla mogul, and key adviser to President-elect Donald Trump, was responding to a post by the right-leaning commentator “Libs of TikTok,” who shared a pie chart that showed 29% of Wikipedia’s $177 million budget for 2023-24 was targeted for “equity” and “safety & inclusion.“

Yup. Ended my donations as soon as the politics became unbearable. BTT
I can’t not donate to Wokepedia any more than I am now......May it crash and burn and be taken over by people who want to preserve non-partisan knowledge.
I was banned for life from Wikipedia recently after making over 1000 contributions over 10 years.
My crime was complaining that the elite editors kept on calling almost all republicans/conservatives “far right extremists” and “conspiracy theorists” or similar labels.
It was just getting ridiculous.
Works for me
Stupid is supposed to hurt.
Wiki is pretty good if the subject is non political, historical, anything currently in the news or social media. Those subjects become propaganda on Wiki.
He just got pissed because Wiki posted that Elon was an illegal alien and posted to articles demonstrating it.
I've mainly relied on it for historical, medical, and scientific information, and occasionally to identify some unrecognized thing I read about elsewhere. It's been invaluable, and so I've contributed happily to it for many years.
I tolerated the growing tendency toward left-leaning bias in the political and social related articles, because that's just the way all media has been leaning, but I was willing to put up with it because I believed my contributions were going toward helping Wikipedia improve its content.
Well, my contributions just came to a screeching halt. I will not fund DEI efforts. Period, full stop, end of the road.
I am so angry and disappointed. Actually, I'm f**king furious that my money went to that DEI sh*t. Total betrayal is what it is. [SPIT]

They are an extremist Leftist operation, don’t give them any more money, they simply do not need it.
Curiously, I actually considered a small donation to Wikipedia this very day.
Musk’s warning made sure that didn’t happen.
So I now understand. They sure have one hell of a beg page, though, capable of convincing the naive and uninformed.
Good move.
Well, I have to agree with him on this thing for sure.
There are some interesting comments here on hardware costs to run the operation.

They could fire 85% of the staff and still get by. Like Twitter under Jack Dorsey and the witch.

I agree. There actually is some useful information there. You just have to be smarter than the content and ignore the obvious “steering” propaganda coming from personal opinion there.
It’s not that hard to recognize and just dismiss the propaganda on the fly as you read it.
I decided, long ago, not to donate to Wikipedia. Why promote the radical left?
