Soldiers are quitting the Armed Forces at an alarming rate, despite a pay rise over the summer.

For the first time on record, there are now just two servicemen or women per thousand people in Britain.

Some 15,119 left the Armed Forces in the year to October. Of these, 7,778 were counted as “voluntary outflow”, those choosing to leave of their own accord.

I don’t know about the UK. But no conscription in the US without a Congressional declaration of war. The Military Industrial Complex has too many toys to play with as it is now.

As a side note, some folks advocate for some sort of national service requirement for young people. That makes sense in theory, but in the wrong hands it could turn into a liberal indoctrination program.

They need to ask themselves this:

What would the soldiers be fighting for?

If the answer is about race or sexism (DEI), maybe they aren’t motivated. If it’s about LBGQT and pedophiles, again not interested. Maybe it’s about protecting Muslims as well as paid off politicians who support them. Then it’s just not worth it to the soldiers who are risking their lives, for low pay. Believing in your family and your nation isn’t something you can’t pay’ for, and soldiers who are money oriented tend to evaporate like the Afghanistan army. If you build a reprehensible world, nobody wants to fight to keep it. Military must have honor, what honor would they be fighting for?

Conscription won’t ‘fix’ it. Might make the numbers better, but when the time comes they will disappear before they fight.

Nonsense.
The UK spends only 2.3% of GDP on defense, which is 1/3 less than the US spends -- 3.4%.
If the UK spent as much as the US % of GDP on defense, that would provide more than enough money to pay, equip & train their troops properly.

Western countries which conscript soldiers today are all under serious threat from a neighbor(s):

1. Israel 5.3% of GDP on defense
2. South Korea 2.8%
3. Finland 2.4%
4. Sweden 1.5%
5. Estonia 2.7%
6. Lithuania 2.5%
7. Latvia 2.3%
8. Denmark 1.7%
9. Turkey 1.3%
10. Greece 3.0%

Conscription is not the answer in peacetime.
Making hard choices is the answer.

As I recall, the AUMF enacted by Congress after 9/11 is a declaration of war (War on Terror), never rescinded.

They can imo reinstate a draft anytime.

That is the key question that has to be asked.

Nobody is fighting for global warming either. Liberals will run at the first fighting. They are also steadily taking away liberty as well on a number of fronts. Why would a conservatives fight for that?
