House Speaker Mike Johnson brokered a last-minute agreement with Democrat leaders late Friday.
The deal extends federal funding through March and allocates substantial disaster relief, but notably excludes President-elect Donald Trump’s demand for a debt ceiling increase, according to AP.
The 118-page package maintains current government funding levels and includes $100 billion for disaster aid and $10 billion in agricultural assistance. However, it omits provisions to raise the debt ceiling, a point of contention for Trump and his allies, including billionaire Elon Musk, who had advocated for a long-term suspension of the borrowing limit.
Trump reiterated his position on the debt ceiling, calling for its extension or abolition to avoid future partisan gridlocks.

Please tell me the individual who can wrangle 220 Republicans and can only afford to lose 3 because he’s got a 5 vote majority. Who is this magical person you dream of?
Definitely they will declare victory no matter the outcome. But they know they lost. Thanks, Elon.
Kiss of death.
Don't you watch pro sports.
When a GM says a coach is safe and doing a good job, it means he will be sent packing on the GM's time table.
Reminds me of this thread today:

The CEO said everything was great a few months before shutting down all stores and firing all employees.
Trump doesn’t want to increase spending. He’s just tired of this 90 day theater the weak Republicans pull.
Take the stupid, meaningless debt ceiling off the table for 2 years. Then cut, cut. Cut.
And somebody voted for them in a primary w/o knowing who they really were, and somebody voted them in (maybe) in the general election. The citizenry needs to pull on its adult pants and take charge again of who is running and who is winning.
Completely wrong
In a $100 billion spending bill the ONLY thing Mitch McConnel and the GOP Senate could think to cut was the promised $1200 to US Citizens. The reduced it to $600. The 95% of the bill packed with things like the “foreign aid” funding LGBTQ out reach in Pakistan was rubber stamped by Mitch McConnel and the US Senate GOP
Trump warned them they were kissing the 2 run off Senate election in GA good bye with that idiot move. Trump was right. During the run off the Democrats ran 24/7 ads about how to vote for them and they would get the full $1200.
And GA voted in the two Dems in the run off just as Trump warned
This is the one time I going to break my rule about talking to morons. You know less then nothing about this.
There were murderous provisions in at least the original version.
That’s not a good job.
Yes :)
It’s hysterical how often that happens.
They have his “full confidence” :)
No, we don’t support anything because Trump said so. We have got to have Constitutional spending and we need spending under control. Every program proposed for federal spending must be listed in Article 1 Section 8 (unless specifically mentioned by Amendment unambiguously).
What we really need to do is have all candidates for Congress or President take a pledge on the Debt Limit they are running on. If they take the Oath of Office and we go over the limit then they jump out the window at the top of the Washington Monument in a final act of humility that they broke their campaign promise and dishonored their beloved country.
That’s why it’s not up to Mike....and put to a vote. His job was to bring it to the floor.
So does anyone know if the congress got their pay raise?
I did not see a pay raise in the document.
Anyone please correct me if that is not correct.
Totally hysterical bullsh!t headline from GP.
What the hell difference does it make if the provisions of the single spending bill are no different than what was contained in the three separate ones?
The only purpose of splitting it into three bills was to maximize the political leverage needed to get each of the three passed -- by forcing each House member to go on the record three times with his or her votes. If the combined bill only had 30-35 "No" votes, then there was absolutely no need for any political leverage whatsoever.
The new congress should demand a new speaker with some cajones.
It is hard to tell at this point exactly what Johnson was doing.
He could have been (speculation I admit) playing rope-a-dope with the Democrats waiting until the last minute to scuttle the “carefully negotiated” 1500 page nightmare.
The approved document is only 116 pages and appears to avoid almost all the really bad stuff.
On the other hand Johnson could have been part of the problem and the Musk/Trump combo had to show him where his private parts were.
a roll of toilet paper... johnson and johnson just keeps rolling over...
I just want to know if they left in the J6 piece.
I did not see the J6 piece in the bill—but I could have missed it....
Matt Gaetz would be great; you don't even have to be a member of congress either.
