President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday night nominated former Georgia GOP Senate candidate Herschel Walker for U.S. Ambassador to the Bahamas.
Trump has spent the past six weeks since he was elected back to the White House by filling out his Cabinet and other key roles in his administration. Other recent ambassador picks include Kimberly Guilfoyle for ambassador to Greece, and former ambassador to El Salvador Ronald Johnson for ambassador to Mexico.
The former president praised Walker as a man who has spent decades as an ambassador to children, military servicemembers, and athletes around the world. Walker played as a running back in the NFL for 12 seasons.
"A successful businessman, philanthropist, former Heisman Trophy winner, and NFL Great, Herschel has been a tireless advocate for youth sports," Trump said in a post on Truth Social. "Congratulations Herschel! You will make Georgia, and our entire Nation, proud, because we know you will always put AMERICA FIRST!"

As long as Herschel isn’t given anything substantive or consequential, I’m okay with it. Trump is basically giving him a cushy job for Herschel having endorsing him. I’m not sure how consequential Walker’s endorsement was, but it didn’t hurt.

The Bahamas has a smaller population than my Polk County FL, which is the deurbanized zone between Tampa and Orlando. I remember when the Bahamian ambassador to the US was Sydney Poitier, and he was as good at it as anyone else would have been.
