Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi is reportedly working behind the scenes to put the kibosh on Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez' dream of taking a powerful Democratic House position in the new Congress.
The 35-year-old progressive Squad member is looking to become the ranking member on the House Oversight Committee, having served as vice ranking member.
But she would have to beat out Virginia Congressman Gerry Connelly, who also launched his own bid for the top committee job.
Their face-off sets Democrats up for a generational battle between the millennial member of Congress and the 74-year-old lawmaker who has served in the House since 2009.
Pelosi may no longer be in Democratic House leadership but she still wields immense power and has publicly backed Connolly for the position.
Behind the scenes, the 84-year-old California Democrat is reportedly even making calls on behalf of Connolly, according to a new report in Punchbowl News.
As Connolly seeks to become top Democrat on the House oversight Committee, last month he revealed days after the election that he was diagnosed with esophagus cancer.
The congressman said he would be undergoing chemotherapy, but he was confident in a successful outcome.
AOC first signaled she was 'interested' in mounting a bid for ranking member earlier this month and said she was speaking with colleagues before formalizing her bid.

Maybe AOC is not as stupid as she acts. If the other candidate for the job is suffering from cancer and is 74.. how can he do the job?
As for Pelosi, she is ruthless and if there is some other hidden animus between she and AOC, my money is on Pelosi.
If Nancy’s 84 my money is on Snow White. Nancy will be history. If not she’ll be irrelevant.

How sad that an 84-year-old woman is still working instead of retiring but this is their identity. Without this job they have nothing. Get a life Nancy, find a hobby!
Regardless of what you think of her, AOC’s rise to the top of the D party has been very impressive. While most freshmen congresscritters were still trying to find the bathroom, she was putting out ideas and bills that are now core parts of the D agenda.
They’re terrible ideas, to be sure, but the point is, she’s as much a superstar in the D party as JD Vance is on our side. That’s why it’s silly to not take her seriously and clearly old Nancy knows that. As a former boss used so say of some fast-climbers in the corporate world, “she may have risen high but her base is narrow”. Nancy may well prefer to topple her and promote those who have paid their dues for 15 or 20 years.
Nancy’s days are numbered. Her power block is failing apart. She will be one of the first to fall when the Trump DoJ looks into the Jan. 6 hoax. Her ruthlessness has hurt too many people and they will undermine the woman and seek revenge.
