Man as God: The primordial heresy and the evolutionary science of becoming God
Renew America ^ | 12/13/24 | Linda Kimball

“Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of Us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might stretch out his hand, and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever” Genesis 3:22

From the days of Adam right down to our own time, the devilish belief that man is God has danced across history, seducing millions in its path:

“In this way, even by magic, which is…a second idolatry, wherein they pretend that after death they become demons, just as they were supposed in the first and literal idolatry to become gods.” Tertullian Treatise on the Soul 57

In the original pre-flood idolatry people believed they would evolve into gods who would be autonomous and a law unto the dictates of their own wills. Early Church Father John of Damascus describes the terrible actions of god-men:

“Barbarism is that which prevailed from the days of Adam down through ten generations to the time of Noah. It is called barbarism because of the fact that in those times men had no ruling authority or mutual accord, but every man was independent and a law unto himself after the dictates of his own will.” (John of Damascus, “The Fount of Knowledge,” cited in Political Apocalypse, Ellis Sandoz, p. 131)

“The generation of the Flood was not wiped out until they wrote marriage documents for the union of a man to a male or to an animal.” Genesis Rabbah 26: 4-5; Leviticus Rabbah 23:9

We are living in a time where men are playing at being gods. Even if they don’t publicly claim to be god as George Soros does, they are playing at being gods when they try to create a new man (ie genetic and mRNA experiments), create chimera, geo-engineer the weather, try to read our minds, or claim the world for themselves.

Anyone who actually wants the job of God must not have looked too closely at the job description.

Probably because they imagine God is just like them. This is how narcissists reason. They use themselves as the measure of everyone else, including God.

Yeah. A preposterous claim for any human. Personally I think God complexes are all about a person who feels they have no control, so they try to manufacture it around them to look at.

The Mormons teach that they will become ‘Gods’ after this life and populate their own planets. So, Blasphemous Cult?

And the Catholics say that without the Church - and it’s priests - one cannot be saved - even though Jesus made it clear that all we had to do was confess to Him and believe in Him - They even want us to call their minions “Father”, even though Jesus said, “And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.” another Blasphemous Cult?

IMO - all organized religions are blasphemous cults, in that they all preach different rules that are mainly misinterpretations of biblical truths...

The “prostitution” of the biblical word has no boundaries.

“Christianity is not a religion’ it is the announcement of the end of religion.

Religion consists of all the things (believing, behaving, worshipping, sacrificing) the human race has ever thought it had to do to get right with God. About those things, Christianity has only two comments to make. The first is that none of them ever had the least chance of doing the trick: the blood of bulls and goats can never take away sins (see the Epistle of Hebrews) and no effort of ours to keep the law of God can ever succeed (see the Epistle of Romans). The second is that everything religion tried (and failed) to do has been perfectly done, once and for all, by Jesus in his death and resurrection.

For Christians, then, the entire religion shop has been closed, boarded up and forgotten. The church is not in the religion business. It never has been and it never will be, in spite of all the ecclesiastical turkeys through two thousand years who have acted as if religion was their stock in trade. The church, instead, is in the Gospel-proclaiming business. It is not here to bring the world the bad news that God will think kindly about us only after we have gone through certain creedal, liturgical, and ethical wickets; it is here to bring the world the Good News that ‘while we were yet sinners, Christ died for the ungodly.’ It is here, in short, for no religious purpose at all, only to announce the Gospel of free grace.”

- Robert Farrar Capon in Kingdom, Grace and Judgment.

While knowing good and evil and living forever is being like God we are still God’s creation. None of us can create anything similar in the way God created. Also being created from God our entire existence depends on God so anything we do ultimately goes back to the original creator. All credit and glory belongs to God in the end.

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

"Christ in me" is the uniqueness of Christianity.

With respect to modern Western god-men, they stand condemned, though they know it not---as yet:

“this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved” (John 3:19-20).

Most common sense post so far.

No human can come even close to what the creator has done and will do. All that humans can do is emulate and copy and try to create things that they believe are god-like, but to do any of that, they have to examine what came first, and no human could have done what God created.

Man was created in the image of God, but then, that's humanity's description of what God created. No, man was not created in God's image. God possesses an intelligence millions of times greater than humans. No human can even conceive how to go about creating the heavens and the earth, much less anything approaching the complexity of life in its many forms.

If God has a rival named Satan, why isn't Satan as great as God. God can make Satan disappear from the universe if Satan was a creation of God. But, there is no such thing as a devil/satan/lucifer. What God created is life, and humans are one of those creations. God gave humans the capacity for good and evil. It is the 'evil' part of humans which can be personified as 'satan'.

Satan is a creation of humanity and is not real. Evil lives in humans, and is dormant until something triggers it (and the demons come out). The evil side exists, but not as satan or demons.

A mental disease which seems to control a human and cause wrongdoing, cannot be called the 'evil' side of a human. Evil is a controllable aspect of a human, and people will do evil things, but disease-born wrongdoing is not the evil side of humans. Humans have the inherent capability to do good and evil. Good and evil are part of creation. Humans have the will to do good and bad, but bad should never be rationalized as 'just being human'.

Anywho, bad is evil and good is the normal state of humans. Evil can occur, even from the most honest and intelligent and best of humans.

Exactly - but, Man, being Man, had to create a plethora of religions and call them “Christian Religions”, totally ignoring the Word of the Christ who they claim to be based on....
