Trump Calls for End to Daylight Saving Time
The Epoch Times ^ | December 13, 2024 | Reuters

WASHINGTON—President-elect Donald Trump said on Friday the Republican Party “will use its best efforts” to end daylight saving time, which he called “inconvenient, and very costly to our Nation.”

“The Republican Party will use its best efforts to eliminate Daylight Saving Time, which has a small but strong constituency, but shouldn’t!” Trump said on social media. “Daylight Saving Time is inconvenient, and very costly to our Nation.”

Daylight saving time - putting the clocks forward one hour during the summer half of the year to make the most of the longer evenings - has been in place in nearly all of the United States since the 1960s, but has been a topic of debate in recent years.

Some lawmakers want to stay on standard time year-round, more are on record calling for remaining on daylight saving time all year, while others want to keep the status quo. President Joe Biden never took a public position on the issue.

In March 2022, the U.S. Senate voted unanimously to make daylight saving time permanent but the effort stalled in the House after lawmakers said they could not reach consensus. A bipartisan group of senators in March made a new push to make daylight saving time permanent.

Supporters of remaining on daylight saving time argue it would lead to brighter afternoons and evenings and more economic activity during the winter months. Critics say it would force children to walk to school in darkness, since the measure would delay sunrise by an hour.

I would prefer we stay on standard time year around. Kill daylight savings time. DST penalizes early risers.

“...to make the most of the longer evenings...”

Like for summer parties and bonfires and stuff? *SMIRK*

Hate to tell them, but you get up for barn chores when the ANIMALS NEED IT - doesn’t matter WHAT time of day it is or if it’s still dark out. You milk in the dark at the end OR the beginning of the day; the cows don’t wear watches!

It is a stupid thing in this day and age. We now have this new-fangled thing called ‘ee-lec-tris-a-tay’ and you can add it to light up your barns and sheds!

Cancel this stupidity. Please!

For those who want more daylight after work. find a job starting at 4 or 5 am. There’s nothing stopping you from getting up as early as you want. People complain they have less daylight after work when we switch to standard time, it’s because during the winter months days are shorter. Work midnight to eight am and you’ll have all day after work.

Good, my state chooses Greenwich Mean Time as ours. thus when it is noon GMT and my state, then it is 7 hours earlier in the state next to mine. i.e. 2300 GMT would be 1600 local.

Sorry Donald, I believe we need to have daylight savings time year round for the country but certain states due to their location near time zone boundaries should have the right to set their time differently, such as Arizona and a few others.

We are on daylight saving time nearly 8 months of the year, and on standard time only 4. Seems we should go the other way and be on saving time year round. As an early riser, I don’t mind the morning darkness, and I do like the extra daylight later in the day.

There will be even more grumbling when those anti-dst people find that by the time they get home from work, shower and change their clothes, fix dinner and clean up the kitchen, there is longer enough daylight to allow them to go for their usual walk.
It will be impossible to please everybody.

Does the sun know anything about this?

Exactly, I live in WA state, I vote for perrmanent 1 hour advancement. It is dark here in the winter, and in the Summer it will be dark around 8 pm too. I have always loved DST, somedays last till 9 PM, twilight until nearly 10. Standard time right noow, it gets dark around 4pm, it is dark going to work at 7 to about 8 am.

They speak of it being better for kids going to school, but I’d rather they be coming home with some daylight.

With electric lights in every house, it's not about "light". They keep changing the reason it exists. DST exists because a bunch of dumb a** politicians said..."That's a great idea."

This clock change thing has the same MO as Climate Change". Anyone that thinks we can change the climate by doing this and that is whacko. It's all about MONEY...and it's bankrupting the world...and we're getting nothing.
