NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte expressed concern about the idea of conducting peace negotiations in the nearly three-year-long Russia-Ukraine war without Russian President Vladimir Putin “at the table,” calling the move “risky.”
“It is crucial that whenever there is a deal that it is a good deal, with all the elements in there,” Rutte said during a discussion Wednesday at Carnegie Europe think tank in Brussels.
“I think these were very good considerations, but again, for me to start to discuss this, we start a sort of debate amongst ourselves, within the alliance, with our European partners, without having Putin at the table, and that is risky,” he added.

Why would you want to talk to the guy you want to use as an excuse to start WWIII? 🤡
You think Trump is gonna sit with Putin?? Ridiculous.
The West - still negotiating with itself over The Ukraine...
Ridiculous is thinking we and Ukraine can negotiate a deal, and then call in Putin to sign something we created without their input.
And just a reminder. We are the ones screaming for a cease fire, the Russians aren’t.
“The West - still negotiating with itself over The Ukraine...”
It’s how they come to face reality.
They can’t do it all at once.
You think Trump is gonna sit with Putin?? Ridiculous.
><
Of course Trump would sit down with Putin. Where have you been?
“This guy could teach rocket surgery.”
Its been pointed out by others that the Neocons in the US and Europe will spend 6 months arguing with each other over a ‘peace plan’ for Ukraine...just to get an IMMEDIATE NYET from Putin, and usually the same reply from Zelensky, for that matter.
It’s 46 days now...and that’s when we start FINALLY talking to Putin (even though all one has to do is pull up a few transcripts to know what he wants - it is not top secret).
“It is crucial that whenever there is a deal that it is a good deal, with all the elements in there,”
One of the elements is the parties to the conflict. Who is Zelenskystein negotiating peace with?
That's ridiculous...Putin gets called in when signatures are necessary.
That's ridiculous. Every day there is less and less Ukraine, and fewer Ukrainians. Ukraine has no leverage.
He lost his last job waging a war on farmers in his country.
He's not the sharpest tool in the shed.
From the article: Rutte noted that Ukraine should initiate talks with the Kremlin but must do so in a position of “strength.”
What position of strength? Ukraine looks like Dresden. They have NOTHING.
A Peace Plan without Ruzzia Participation?
There will be no Peace, if that’s NATO Plan.
What an Idiot.
So many nitwits...so little time.
“One of the elements is the parties to the conflict. Who is Zelenskystein negotiating peace with?”
a very good question.
“You think Trump is gonna sit with Putin?? Ridiculous.”
Why not? It’ll be Hitler meets Hitler...
The US in particular has a lot of leverage. Trump has already stated he’ll flood Ukraine with weapons if Pooty doesn’t negotiate in good faith.
Ukraine for its part can shift to fighting a very large asymmetric guerilla war, if need be. Even current Euro support would be more than enough for that, and never mind that in that situation the very large financial support the Euro’s have allocated for Ukraine for the most part could be diverted to weapons, mostly stealthy autonomous drones, I suspect.
Man, you (again!) need a reading comprehension class. Rutte is saying Pooty (Russia) has to be at the table pretty much from the get go.
