A Chinese national has been arrested on suspicion of flying a drone to take photographs over a US Space Force base.

Federal police arrested Yinpiao Zhou on Monday after he was allegedly caught flying a drone over the Vandenberg Space Force Base, in California.

In a criminal complaint, the US Attorney’s Office said Mr Zhou flew a drone over the base and took photographs on Nov 30 – the same day it launched a rocket on behalf of the National Reconnaissance Office.

Red herring. One Chinese dude with a DJI Mini isn’t the same as car sized drones swarming over several states.

The pads are not seen from Lompoc or 101, but they are seen from the beach and from Amtrak trains - the Lompoc/Surf station is on the base. Years ago, a "passenger" got off the train, went up to North VAFB and smashed some computers. Perp was apprehended, went to jail, and got a law degree while incarcerated. Later released and began representing anarchists.

I worked at VAFB for 21 years, have been retired for many years now, don't know what security procedures are in place.

Seems like the Chinese would be able to take all of the pictures they want with satellites. This is more likely testing the response to a drone over the airbase.

WOW, I have passed by on the train once right past SC6 when it was going to be used for the shuttle. got pictures somewhere.

I live in the south central valley and get tp watch the falcon 9 flights after it clears the mountains.
