Volodymyr Zelensky may have just called last orders on his relationship with Joe Biden in one of the most open assaults on the outgoing president to date.
There have been plenty of rows between the two leaders during almost three years of conflict, but the argument that began to unfold last week may be the one to end them all.
In recent weeks, US officials have been quietly urging their Ukrainian counterparts to conscript men as young as 18 to be sent to the front line in the war against Russia’s full-scale invasion.
Washington is arguing that manpower shortages are reaching a critical stage, with Russia making steady gains in eastern Ukraine and the possibility that Donald Trump could withdraw military support for Kyiv when he takes office in January. ‘There have to be people on the front lines’
Those warnings became public when Antony Blinken, the secretary of state, arrived in Brussels for a meeting with Nato foreign ministers.
“Even with the money, even with the munitions, there have to be people on the front lines to deal with the Russian aggression,” he told reporters.
“But, for example, getting younger people into the fight, we think, many of us think, is necessary. Right now, 18- to 25-year-olds are not in the fight,” he later added in an interview with Reuters.

Zelensky has been conscripting boys 15 years of age and that was a long time ago. The reason he’s probably not conscripting now is those still alive are the sons of Ukrainian powerbrokers or people Zelensky fears.
I did see some coverage claiming he wants American ‘peacekeepers’ - boots on the (Ukrainian) ground.

The legal age to vote in Ukraine is 18. Biden wants 18 year old Ukraine men to die before they ever get to cast their first vote whenever elections are held there again.

I believe Zelensky, and most of his big-shots, have been pushing them in the Rear.
Zelensky needs this generation to rebuild Ukraine demographically.
I'm sure by now he realizes that the MIC in Washington D.C. is not interested in resolving the war in Ukraine. So now Zelensky is reaching out to Trump. Even if it means he has to concede Crimea and Donbass for now.
Actually I head a sound argument for why Ukraine does this.
They know there are serious demographic issues on the horizon for them and if you wait with conscription until 25 more men have children, i.e. reproduced.

At this rate, Ukraine will have 25 million if they end the ear tomorrow but they will be able to recover.

But, Ukraine is woefully short on troops.
So, if Trump cuts off military funding to Ukraine, Ukraine will have no choice but to take any deal it can get.
